The Mango was a super regional tournament held in Long Beach, California, on March 18th, 2018 and organized by 2GGaming and Mango. It hosted singles and doubles tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Melee. It was the first 2GGaming Melee tournament and the first tournament of the Road to Mango Juice 2 series. Notable top players include Mango, Leffen, SFAT, S2J, Shroomed, Swedish Delight, Westballz, Lucky, HugS, and many others. In addition to singles and doubles, the tournament also included a "Buster Bracket," as a reference to one of Mango's nicknames.
The tournament featured a relaxed atmosphere seen as emblematic of the character of Mango: numerous players and commentators were intoxicated throughout the event, and many players chose to sandbag, playing secondaries or not competing at a serious level. Many of those top players were notably upset in the tournament, with Mango falling at 17th while using Captain Falcon and Leffen taking 13th while using Marth and Mewtwo, among others. Kalamazhu pulled off a very impressive run, beating top players such as Mango, SFAT, and Syrox on his way to a 2nd place finish. However, the carefree ambiance and vulgar commentary were the center of minor controversy, as the commentary was within earshot of players, which proved to be a distraction to their performance. Earlier into the tournament, the venue did not allow players to bring their own water. The issue was later rectified after Jmex spoke to the venue staff.
