Is the main character of EarthBound Zero(Mother) Ness? I'm pretty sure the name Ness is never used in that game...but is it the same character?--Simna ibn Sind 05:46, February 5, 2007 (GMT)

The Wikipedia article agrees (also, Talk:Ness (SSB)). Ninten was the main hero of Mother 1; Ness first starred in Earthbound/Mother 2. MaskedMarth (t c) 14:50, February 5, 2007 (GMT)

Up and down smashes[edit]

  • Nerf His up and down smashes' knockback were weakened considerably, now unable to KO except at very high damage percentages.

This nerf above is false, because in 64, those were not reliable K.O. moves, so i would have removed this nerf because i find that the knockback have not changed since 64 so can someone correct it? User:YoshiKong (talk) 17:07, 2 December 2014 (EST)

Nope. Up and down smashes were significantly stronger in 64, even though they weren't always reliable. --Timson622222 (talk) 18:59, 3 December 2014 (EST)

Notable players[edit]

I'm just wondering why Nihlus was removed from the list of notable Ness players. He isn't the best or anything, but isn't he supposed to be the best in Texas and semi-known? I'm pretty sure he isn't even the worst Ness on that list. I only bring it up because of how few Ness players there are to mention to begin with. 107.222.230.173 03:30, 28 February 2016 (EST)

His page was removed today for lack of overall notability (AKA, no tourney results). Serpent SKSig.png King 03:43, 28 February 2016 (EST)

I don't know how wiki works so apologies if I'm messing up, I just wanted to say that I think it's unfair to remove my player page AND remove me from the notable player list when I do have results (17th at DIME 18 for example) and have a near 400 follower Twitch channel. I am indisputably a top 5 Ness player in the world and more well-known than half of the other notable players on the list considering I regularly commentate and play on TourneyLocator's stream on a weekly basis.

Followers are irrelevant. Also prove that you are in the top 5 of Ness players. I have never heard of DIME, also, and it wasn't on your page, nor have I found any results in your name. Serpent SKSig.png King 01:06, 4 March 2016 (EST)

I have an entire page of Youtube results to my name, and as for proof of my top 5 status I encourage you to get into contact with Simna or VRud, the best and second best respectively, who will confirm that claim for you. I am ranked top 30 in Dallas - Fort Worth a region with Wobbles, Arc, Albert, etc. I have only been to Forte 3 and the DIME series in terms of nationals so my resume isn't lengthy, however I placed well at both and if the quantity of nationals one goes to determines their eligibility for this list than ApolloUK and Cogfist have no reason to be here as well.

VRud[edit]

Hello, a few months ago, the Ness main VRud has switched to Falco. My only evidence is that VRud's recent matches seen on https://www.youtube.com/user/SmashBrosMTL has VRud using Falco, and almost never using Ness anymore. I'm posting this because I'm pretty sure that if I move VRud to inactive, it will be undone due to a lack of evidence. My question is, do I need evidence to change this? Not really, no. Maybe just include the video link in the edit summary. Serpent SKSig.png King 22:44, 15 May 2017 (EDT)

Official Move Names[edit]

I saw a small edit in the history adding and removing names for some attacks. For reference, here are the names within their source. I suppose we can all feel free to apply this source to any Melee character's page. https://archive.org/details/SuperSmashBros.MeleeOfficialPlayersGuide/page/n19/mode/2up --SimnaibnSind (talk) 07:15, September 6, 2022 (EDT)

JoeyBats[edit]

He is one of the best Ness players playing the game right now. Here are his 357 results as of this edit. They aren't all amazing, but no one who plays Ness has purely amazing results. There is more evidence for his place on this list than there is for Nessby.--SimnaibnSind (talk) 00:19, September 8, 2022 (EDT)

Support: While attending a ton of tournaments is in itself a great feat, it's doesn't really fit the criteria for being listed in this section. That said, however, his consistent top placements at East Coast Fridays should be more than enough to add him to the section. On top of that, his placements at Untitled EC, Uncle Sam's Maple Syrup, and Xanadu only further his status as one of the best active Ness players. Nihlus[edit]

Another highly skilled Ness who, at his peak, was one of the best. Like JoeyBats he has the results to back it up. Moreso than the likes of Nessby and NuclearLunch. I'm not trying to get those 2 removed from the list, but if they qualify then these two do as well.--SimnaibnSind (talk) 00:35, September 8, 2022 (EDT)

Support: Consistently placing well at Monday Night Melee (for a Ness atleast), 33rd at LTC6, and 65th at LTC7, are enough for me to support adding Nihlus. Nessby and NuclearLunch, while notable in their own right, don't really come anywhere near the accomplishments of Nihlus. Señor Mexicano (talk) 01:32, September 20, 2022 (EDT)
On the topic of NuclearLunch and Nessby, the former doesn't look like he belongs; aside from no one ever bothering to create an article for him here, the PR he is on covers a region with a population smaller than a million, and of the two tournament results cited in this section, one doesn't even have an article here, while for the other, over half of its top 8 are red links. Unless more substantial results from outside his region can be provided, NuclearLunch will be removed. As for Nessby, there's no results cited in the section, and his article has no results either (if I saw an article with such low effort put into it being made nowadays, I would delete it), if nothing more substantial can be provided for him he'll be removed too. I'm also highly skeptical that a character like Melee Ness has really had that many especially significant players, so that just farther fuels that those two should be removed if more players are being added. Jim Jam Flim Flam[edit]

Another Ness player with high historical significance. Not only is he known for his persona, his commentary, and the excellent parody documentary for which he was part of the team, he also has results similar to my own results as well as some of the highest placings for a Ness in the 2005 era of regional MLG events.--SimnaibnSind (talk) 00:42, September 8, 2022 (EDT)

Anyone wanna have this discussion? I was having edits undone for including some of the above names and told that there had to be a consensus on this Talk page but it seems like no one wants to have the conversation at all.--SimnaibnSind (talk) 01:58, September 13, 2022 (EDT)

Yes it's poor form for people to ignore your talk page posts for over a week and then just keep reverting you under the basis of "no consensus", if no one is going to respond to you within 24 hours, your additions will stay. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 02:28, September 19, 2022 (EDT)
I am not an expert at Melee or anything old school but the persona commentary part sounds irrelevant to those sections afaik. Maybe the documentary is if it counts as a discovery or some sort. I am more curious about the 2005 MLG stuffs, if he placed high there, then why nothing is listed on Jim Jam Flim Flam's placings? I do see that there are MLG pages on the wiki. Grand Dad.png NPM Morr!? A legit emoji in the Smash Asia server. 01:09, September 20, 2022 (EDT)
As NPM stated, the criteria for this section are in regard to tournament experience or character contributions only. I think it would help if you listed some of his MLG results as they aren't listed on his page. While I wasn't around back then, I do recall hearing his tag every now and then. Would definitely support if you're able to post his results. Señor Mexicano (talk) 01:32, September 20, 2022 (EDT)
