Last name[edit]

If his last name isn't seen in any Super Smash Bros. game, it shouldn't be in the title. Is his last name mentioned in the DOJO!! or something? Blue Ninjakoopa (talk) 22:18, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Not to my knowledge. Miles (talk) 22:36, 24 October 2010 (EDT)
Well, it is true that his last name isn't in any of the Smash games, but it's kinda implied when the trophies mention him as Dr. Andonuts' father. Unknown the Hedgehog 22:41, 24 October 2010 (EDT)
Mario's last name is Mario. We don't have an article called Mario Mario or Luigi Mario.--MegaTron1XD:p 22:45, 24 October 2010 (EDT)
Well actually Mario's last name isn't Mario. [1]. But anyway, I am actually against the last name also because, as said before, it's not mentioned in any of the Smash games. Unknown the Hedgehog 22:54, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Seeing how we tend to name things the way they're named in the Smash games, I think we should move the article to just "Jeff". Though, a mention of his last name in Earthbound in the article could be alright. Omega TyrantTyranitarMS.png 05:12, 25 October 2010 (EDT)

Agreed with OT. Miles (talk) 12:42, 25 October 2010 (EDT)

Jeff's Origin image[edit]

Since the image is back on the page and no longer up to speedy deletion, I should clarify why I've done these changes.

In summary, simply having an image of the character in their origin game isn't enough. The image doesn't convey much more than the fact that Jeff exists in EarthBound. It would be much more useful if it covered the origin of something relevant to his Assist Trophy appearance, such as his attacks (as I've already suggested here). For this reason, almost every other EarthBound character lacks an Origin image of this sort.

A similar situation would be Tails' and Knuckles' previous Origin images. The earlier, as was discussed here, simply displayed Sonic 2's title screen where Tails appears, otherwise serving no function, so it was removed. The latter suffered from the same problems, displaying Sonic 3's intro cutscene where Knuckles appears, and was then substituted (as Miles himself had advocated) with an image of his digging ability in Sonic Adventure, which was used in his AT appearance.

I believe this should warrant the same treatment, namely replacing it with an image of his Bottle Rocket attack. Until we don't have a replacement, the image only serves to clutter the page. NokiiSig.png Nokii — 19:34, August 4, 2020 (EDT)

Absolutely agreed. By virtue, if we have more than one origin image (including the one in the infobox), then the additional image(s) needs to convey something Smash-relevant that isn't shown in the other image. In this case, a random screenshot of Jeff's sprite in Winters doesn't really show anything about Jeff relevant to Smash, at least nothing that isn't better shown by the clay model in the infobox. I agree that, if we were to use an EarthBound screenshot for the origins section, it should be a screenshot of Jeff using Bottle Rockets during a battle, not just Jeff standing in the overworld. --PeabodySam (talk) 19:50, August 4, 2020 (EDT)
