Shield Jump is a technique unique to Jigglypuff that is present in all three games. It can be activated by having Jigglypuff's Shield break, either on purpose or by accident. Upon having its shield broken, Jigglypuff flies quickly upwards, which can be advantageous or a hindrance, depending on the situation.
Disadvantages
In SSB, this was wholly a flaw. It meant that Jigglypuff users had to be careful about using too much shield, because, if it broke, It was an instant KO. This is still largely true in SSBM and SSBB. However, due to the different stages, if there are ceilings, it does not always result in KO.
Advantages
The first noticeable advantage became clear in SSBM's adventure mode, when the player had to escape from Brinstar which was about to explode. It was an upward climb, and the time taken to complete it could be severely reduced by using the shield jump. Here is a video of the Brinstar Shield Jump[1]
However, SSBB, bringing with it SSE, meant that the shield jump allowed Jigglypuff to reach places, few others could, and complete stages in SSE in record time, such as Glacial Peak. Moreover, SSBB also brought the ability to form custom stages. In this way, a simple stage can be formed where (on large setting) the bottom is filled with blocks, and the top left or right square is also filled with a box, and immediately below a platform. Only Jigglypuff with the Shield Jump, Pit with his Wings of Icarus, R.O.B. with his Robo Burner, Kirby and Meta Knight with their up-throw and Snake with his C4 and Cypher, can reach this height. Thus this stage would guarantee a win in Stamina Mode.
