Category talk:Characters (SSBB)

From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki

Um... a problem: Mario and Mario (SSB) both appear on the list. Best way to fix this I think is to make separate pages for characters' appearance in Brawl and have those pages temporarily link to the Melee pages. --Greenblob 02:31, January 4, 2007 (GMT)

Uhh, I'd say the best fix would be to remove both articles from this category. Or am I missing something? --nealdt 19:27, January 4, 2007 (GMT)

Something I would like to mention and discuss[edit]

Due to the slew of well-known and much-appreciated updates that have been around since May 22nd, I've been wondering if we should start noting various A moves of characters that we have seen to be returning in screenshots (such as Donkey Kong's Fair having been seen in the Skyworld update), or if we could have a full moveset template like the ones for the Melee characters. It seems to me that having a short description of the character and a B move/Final Smash list is a little... lacking. This is only a suggestion -- nobody has to do anything -- but I would like to see the moves that we know are returning posted along with the B moves and Final Smashes. whoa, a list of A attacks would be really long. i guess if you're dedicated, you can make all of the pages look like Mewtwo's fighter page. otherwise, a list of short descriptions will only make it cluttered without adding much information. FyreNWater 02:52, September 5, 2007 (EDT)
It doesn't have to be long. Look at Bowser (SSBM). It lists each of his attacks and their extra effects (such as his Forward B being able to grab). When Brawl comes out and characters have been more thoroughly analyzed, we can extend the pages. But for now, I'd just like to add the moves that we know to be returning from Melee. EDIT: Okay, in response to my last comment, I whipped up a "moveset template" that can be filled in with the attacks we know. Any attack we don't know can be removed from the template. Damage percentages are unneeded as of now, but when Brawl is released and all attacks are known, we can fill in the percentages.

Giga Bowser[edit]

While he is a character in Melee, he's only a transformation in Brawl, thus not an actual Brawl character. So I think we should take him out of the category. 16:35, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

I realized I don't know how to do that. Follow-up question: How do I do that? 16:38, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

I somewhat agree and disagree. While he is not a real character, he does have a moveset and can be moved by the player without having to be attacked. The other question. Just edit the page and press the X by that category. You should wait before doing that.--MegaTron1XD:p 16:40, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
I disagree with He is technically a character even though he's just a move, and therefore belongs in bothe category's. (I also think Wario-Man belongs in this category). Dr. Pain 99 Dp99.png Talk 16:44, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
Well, a transformation should not exclude something from being a character. In the game Dragon Ball Z Budokai, for example, Gogeta is just a transformation, but he's still considered a character.
On a technical level, Giga Bowser is also a character. You can hack both Melee and Brawl to play as him. As such, Master Hand and Crazy hand are also considered by the game to be characters, at least in Melee and SSB. Sandbag and the Polygons/wire frames/alloys are also considered characters. Mr. Anon teh awsome 18:45, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

I certainly see your points, but if that is the case, shouldn't we also add Metal Mario and Giant DK. They aren't separate characters in the game, but you can play as them with the metal box and super mushroom respectively. 21:06, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Metal Mario and Giant DK's movesets are identical to their regular counterparts, whereas Giga Bowser and Wario-Man's movesets are completely separate. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png The Table Designer 21:24, July 7, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, Giga Bowser and Wario-man have the same movesets except improved as does Giant Dk or at least Metal Mario does. Either way, by that logic shouldn't we remove Dark Link. 21:58, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
I agree that Dark Link should probably be removed, but it's a somewhat different situation; it's a separate character in the Zelda universe, even though it's just a copy of Link in Brawl. And while Giga Bowser's and Wario-Man's movesets appear identical in terms of animation, they operate completely differently (for example, Giga Bowser's f-smash doesn't hit twice, and his up-tilt has 5 different damage possibilities whereas Bowser's only has 1). The movesets of Giant DK and Metal Mario are identical to their originals, with maybe an across-the-board increase in power. Toomai Glittershine Toomai.png eXemplary Logic 22:19, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
Note:I'm I'm on a different computer. Okay so in order to be in the category, you need to have a different moveset from another character, not the same except different looking(Dark Link), or the same except somewhat improved(Like Metal and Giant Characters.) If the moveset looks the same but it truly has a different moveset like Giga Bowser and Wario-man, even if it's a transformation, it belongs in the category. So 2 follow-up questions:

1.Does anyone object to these criteria 2.Should we keep Giga Bowser, and Giga Bowser(Final Smash) 15:02, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with the criteria, and I think we should keep Giga Bowser, Giga Bowser (Final Smash) and Wario-Man in the category. DP99 Dp99.png  15:41, July 9, 2010 (UTC)
