Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants. All of Luigi's have been seen. All of Luigi's original special moves remain the same, but he gains a new Final Smash that replaces Negative Zone. These are Luigi's special moves:
*Neutral special - Fireball: Luigi fires a weak, bouncy ball of green flames is shot from his hand as a projectile. Although similar to Mario's, Luigi's Fireball fill move always move horizontally and appear to be bouncing on the ground regardless of if there actually is any.
*Side special - Green Missile: Luigi charges and flies horizontally like a missile. How far, how fast, and how much damage is done to those it impacts depends on how long Luigi is charged, although there is a small chance Luigi will perform a very powerful but unexpected misfire.
*Up special - Super Jump Punch: Luigi performs an upward punch that releases aesthetic coins from those it hits. When hitting a grounded opponent the right way, the attack becomes the Fire Jump Punch, which can K.O. opponents at low percentages.
*Down special - Luigi Cyclone: Luigi spins his entire body and hits opponents haphazardly. May be based on a ability he has in Super Mario World.

Final Smash
*Poltergust 5000: the Poltergust 5000 from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon suddenly appears on Luigi's back. he then proceeds to suck up nearby opponents. While Luigi doesn't appear to be able to move when performing this action, the Poltergust is able to suck in opponents in all directions, not just in front. When in the Poltergust, the opponents will be damaged. Luigi will then shoot them out in the direction he was facing. The attack is very similar to Cook Kirby from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Final Smash Poltergust 5000
Luigi's stock icon in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Luigi (ルイージ, Ruīji) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was announced during the Nintendo Direct on August 7, 2013, as part of Nintendo's "Year of Luigi".[1] Charles Martinet provides his voice as well as Mario's and Wario's, although through the same voice clips that were used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.[2]

Traditionally, Luigi has always been an unlockable character revealed after the game's release. This installment is the first to break that tradition,[1]as he was both revealed before release and is a starter now.

Changes from Brawl

So far, Luigi has undergone many visual changes to his attacks, but appear to be the same. He has also gained a new Final Smash.

  • Buff Luigi dashes faster.
  • Buff His grab has less ending lag.
  • Buff Forward aerial appears to have greater range and knockback.
  • Buff Forward tilt deals slightly more damage, and has been sped up.
  • Buff Down aerial has been sped up, and appears to have a slightly larger hitbox.
    • Nerf However, it deals less damage.
  • Nerf Fire Jump Punch deals much less knockback, to where it can no longer KO reliably. However, the attack is still strong nevertheless.
  • Change Green Missile now cancels when charged past maximum.
    • Buff It deals much more damage, dealing 10% uncharged as opposed to 5%.
    • Nerf Misfire has much lower priority, getting beaten by Captain Falcon's dash attack.
  • Change Luigi has a new down throw, where he throws the opponent on the ground and forcefully sits on the opponent, similar to King Dedede, Peach, and Wario's down throws.
    • Buff It appears to have less ending lag and lower knockback growth, allowing Luigi more follow up options.
  • Change Luigi has a new jumping animation where he scuttles, similar to what he does in the Mario games.
  • Change Neutral attack's first two jabs appear to have new animations. The final hit will also send Luigi forward.

Like Mario, Luigi has a more cartoonish and sleeker appearance instead of the more realistic look he had in Brawl, which is more inline with his appearance in the Mario games. Like King Dedede and several other characters, his facial expressiveness has been exaggerated even further to reflect his characteristic cowardliness. Unlike previous installments, Luigi's chest will always be facing the foreground, just like Mario.

Taunts

  • Initiates a variety of poses. In order: he faces the screen with one hand on his waist, the other giving the V sign; he turns to the right slightly, pointing his hands that direction, and what's new in this installment is the look of terror on his face while in this pose. Then, he places his right hand just below his nose, as seen in his artwork for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Then he turns away from the screen, crouching, as if he's sad, just like his Bogey animation in Mario Golf and finally, he faces the screen once more, with both hands on his face, giving a frightened look from the cover of Luigi's Mansion.
  • Luigi has his arms straight down and his body fully erect. The pose causes Luigi to gently fall forward and briefly balance on his belly. He says "pow pow". It is based off of one of his victory poses from Super Smash Bros. Melee.
  • He bashfully kicks the ground like in Mario Party 2 and sighs deeply. When performed on an opponent grabbing onto an edge, Luigi can perform a powerful meteor smash.

On-Screen Appearance

A green Warp Pipe appears. Luigi leaps out with his hands on his head and hesitantly says "Let's-a go!"[2]

Victory Fanfare

A flourished remix directly from Brawl based on the sound clip that would play when Luigi reaches the end of a level in Super Mario Bros. It is shared with Mario, Dr. Mario, and Peach.

Luigi
Luigi recently celebrated his 30th anniversary with the Year of Luigi, but all that attention just made him even more shy and awkward. In Smash Bros., Luigi takes a lot of cues from his brother in fighting style, adding flair to moves like Super Jump Punch. His taunts, however, are truly unique.
Luigi (All-Star)
Luigi may sulk when his down taunt is used, but his little dejected kick can actually hurt a nearby enemy fighter. It can even trigger a meteor smash! Notice an enemy leisurely hanging from the edge? Run over and pout on the edge—that foe will be the one with something to pout about!
