Smash Summit 2 was a national Super Smash Bros. Melee invitational tournament held in Los Angeles, California from April 21st-24th, 2016 by Beyond the Summit, an eSports company known for their Dota 2 coverage. Singles, doubles and side events for Melee were hosted. The tournament was held at the Summit gaming house, a private residence, and so is not open to the general public. This tournament is also notable for being only the second tournament where Mew2King beat Armada, the other being SKTAR 3.

Crews and Smash Olympics

At the very beginning of Smash Summit 2, 4 captains who were previously chosen by vote (Hungrybox, Mango, Armada, and Westballz) formed crews by picking smashers through a snake draft process.

Team Pandabox   Hungrybox   Plup   Wobbles   ESAM
Team Mango   Mango   S2J   Silent Wolf   Duck
Team Armada   Armada   Ice   SFAT   Shroomed
Team Westballz   Westballz   Mew2King   Axe   PewPewU

Each crew would gain points when their members won or placed high enough at the verious side events such as the Shared Controller Tournament and the Iron Man Challenge. The team with the most points at the end would win the Smash Olympics and earn $750 to share among themselves.

    • The last time Mew2King took a set off Armada was in 2014 at SKTAR 3.
  • This was the very first Melee tournament in California that both Armada and Mango entered where they did not meet in Grand Finals.
