A crate, as they appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

A Crate is an item that has appeared in the entire Super Smash Bros. series.

Overview

Crates are containers which can hold various different items. When you pick up a Crate, because they are so heavy, you will not be able to jump, attack, and you will move very slowly while holding it. After you have picked up a Crate, you can throw it up, forward, or down. Interestingly, Donkey Kong can move much faster than the rest of the characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee when he his holding a Crate.

Also in Melee, crates may contain an enemy, such as a ReDead or an Octorok. When they are thrown at opponents, they can deal 18 to 22% damage and good knockback.

Crates are very similar to Barrels.

Exploding Crates

Exploding Crates are crates that explode when destroyed and do not contain items. These crates appear in all three games but they are only clearly marked in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You can tell it will explode because it is colored red, with a sticker with a picture of a black flame and reads it "Danger". Exploding crates deal around 49% damage strong knockback.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Crates, along with barrels, will have a different appearance depending on what stage you are playing on. For example, on a space stage, futuristic appearance, and on Yoshi's Island, they look like wrapped up presents.[1] Players can also stand on top of crates in Brawl.

Sliding Boxes

Sliding boxes are a new type of crate that appears in Brawl. These crates are identified by their tiny black wheels on the bottom. If a player hits this crate it will start sliding in the direction it was hit. Characters hit by the sliding box will take damage. Since characters can stand on top of crates in Brawl players can take a ride on a sliding crate if its hit.
