The Sliding Box is an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is similar to a Crate with wheels on the bottom, allowing it to roll down hills. Like Crates and Barrels, Sliding Boxes will change their appearance based on the stage they're in. A certain screenshot makes it seem as if Pikachu is riding on top of the box. Whether this was an odd camera angle or an actual feature of the item is unknown.

It is unknown whether Sliding Boxes are separate items or a variant on the Crate that sometimes appears when Crates are activated, though Super Smash Bros. Dojo!! made it sound somewhat more like they would be separate items, and the Sliding Boxes have their own trophy apart from normal Crates.
A Crate is an item that has appeared in the entire Super Smash Bros. series.

A crate, as they appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

A Crate is an item that has appeared in the entire Super Smash Bros. series.

Overview

Crates are containers which can hold various different items. When you pick up a Crate, because they are so heavy, you will not be able to jump, attack, and you will move very slowly while holding it. After you have picked up a Crate, you can throw it up, forward, or down. If you tap the "a" button near one, it will roll across the stage. Interestingly, Donkey Kong can move much faster than the rest of the characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee when he his holding a Crate.

Also in Melee, Barrels may contain an enemy, such as a ReDead or an Octorok. When they are thrown at opponents, they can deal 18 to 22% damage and good knockback. When they explode once they have hit an opponent, they can deal around 49% damage and strong knockback.

Crates are very similar to Barrels.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Crates, along with Barrels, will have a different appearance depending on what stage you are playing on. For example, on a space stage, futuristic appearance, and on Yoshi's Island, they look like wrapped up presents.[1]
