Birdo is part of the Mushroom Kingdom universe and appears on the Mushroom Kingdom II stage. She also appears as a collectible trophy (which is needed to unlock the Mushroom Kingdom II stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee).

Character description

Birdo's appearance in Super Smash Brothers Melee is based on the classic 2D version of Birdo. Birdo is a pink dinosaur with a large mouth that shoots out eggs. Her stomach is white and she wears a pink bow on her head. She has two small arms and two small legs which help her move around.

Birdo orignally appeared in the the game Super Mario Bros. 2 as an enemy that appeared at the end of a level. She would fire eggs from the opening in her mouth. The next appearance of Birdo was in the game Mario Tennis. She has not appeared in an adventure game since Super Mario Bros. 2, but she has appeared in some of the Mario sports titles and usually partners up with Yoshi. She was introduced as a secret playable character Mario Party 7 and appeared as a playable character again in Mario Party 8. In some of the Mario games, Birdo comes in different colors.

Role in the Super Smash Brothers games

Birdo will appears on either side of the screen of the Mushroom Kingdom 2 stage. She shoots three eggs from her mouth then exits on the side of the screen she came from. Any character that makes contact with the egg will take damage. The eggs can be blocked, jumped on, and air grabbed. Sometimes items come out of the eggs. It is possible to KO Birdo, but she will return to the stage later on. To KO Birdo, attack her with items and attacks. Birdo will flash the color blue when she takes damage. A few attacks will KO Birdo. No bonus points are rewarded for killing Birdo.

Trophy Description

"First seen in Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo is known for shooting eggs and firballs from her mouth. Mario and friends would have to jump on to the eggs in midair, pick them up and throw them back at her. Long missing from the Nintendo scene, Birdo recently reappeared in Mario Tennis and Super Mario Advance"
