Move to "Galaga"[edit]

Neutral, leaning towards support: Both names are valid, but reasons for why I'm more for Galaga is that it's the more popular name to refer to the entire series in general, the only piece of content from the series to receive major representation is the Boss Galaga item, which comes from Galaga (Additionally, the item's spirit even lists its series as "Galaga Series"), and when comparing how many times both names were used, I have found 14 titles that used the Galaga name, whereas I could only find 6 that use the Galaxian name (the ones that were released, anyway). To prove my point:

  • Installments that use the Galaxian name:
    • Galaxian
    • Galaxian 2
    • Galaxian3: Project Dragoon
    • SD Gundam Over Galaxian
    • Galaxian Fever
    • Galaxian Mini
  • Installments that use the Galaga name:
    • Galaga
    • Galaga '88
    • Galaga Arrangement (Arcade)
    • Galaga: Destination Earth
    • Galaga Arrangement (PlayStation Portable; a different game than the one above)
    • Galaga Legions
    • Galaga Remix
    • Galaga Legions DX
    • Galaga 30th Collection
    • Galaga Kai
    • Galaga: Special Edition
    • Space Galaga
    • Galaga Wars
    • Mass Destruction VR Shooting: Galaga Fever

Keep in mind that I excluded Galaga & Galaxian from both lists because, well, it literally uses both names in the title. SmashTurtlesSig1.pngSuperSmashTurtles of the Turtle TribeSmashTurtlesSig2.png 21:36, March 13, 2021 (EST)

Oppose: While it is true that Galaga is the most popular game in the series, Galaxian was the first game. Also, content from Galaxian specifically appears in smash, so calling it the Galaga series would lead to confusion going forward. The current name should be kept. The Other Jared (talk) 01:37, June 27, 2021 (EDT)

Moderate Oppose: I so badly want to say, "when was the last time you heard a person call the series by 'Galaxian?'" But then I remember that I'm a stickler for extremely official content and, despite Smash in-game calling it "Galaga," a strict interpretation of SW:OFFICIAL calls for an opposition as best as I can tell. If a bunch of other people suddenly bring up good points for Support, you may disregard my entry. Sincerely, Samuel the Banjo-Kazooie Boss. Mildly oppose, mostly since there is content from Galaxian relevant to Smash, most notably by way of the Bonus Fruit's behavior and sound effect. Since it isn't very practical to reconcile the two with some kind of word in common, I would stick to the first game's title. The intro paragraph already namedrops Galaga, mitigating any possible confusion. Miles (talk) 23:49, July 9, 2021 (EDT)

Minor oppose: I do see your point here, and it is true that the majority of the series' representation in Smash came from Galaga, Galaxian was still the first game and the initial name of the series. Also there is still content which debuted in Galaxian featured in Smash, so if you ask me the current name works just fine. For my signature. Omega Toad, the Toad Warrior.
