Zelda (ゼルダ, Zeruda) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was announced on December 26, 2013, the date on which The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was released in Japan. Sheik also returns as a playable character, but fully separate and not accessible via transformation. Unlike other The Legend of Zelda characters, Zelda did not get any notable appearance changes, sporting the same realistic look from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that she had in Brawl, albeit with general graphical upgrades.

Changes from Brawl

  • Buff Forward tilt, up smash and neutral aerial have been buffed.
  • Buff Din's Fire will receive additional buffing, with its explosion now growing larger the longer the move is projected, and it'll now have a more powerful sweet spot at the center of the explosion, though the extent of the sweet spot's power and the explosion's greater potential size has not been explicitly stated.
  • Buff Has lost the ability to Transform into Sheik, with the latter becoming her own separate character. To replace Transform, Zelda has a new down special move called Phantom Slash, where she summons a Phantom Armor that shoots out like a projectile, before materialising and attacking. It can also block attacks, and it appears it can be charged to summon the Phantom at farther distances; the Phantom can be reflected as well.
  • Buff Up aerial deals 1% more damage than in Brawl.
  • Buff Down aerial's sweetspot deals 3% more damage, and appears to have a slightly longer horizontal range.
  • Buff Down tilt has slightly longer horizontal range, and noticeably less ending lag.
  • Buff Sweetspotted dash attack deals slightly more damage than in Brawl. It also appears to have strengthened somewhat.
  • Buff Nayru's Love has been sped up.
    • Nerf However, it deals less damage.
  • Nerf Zelda's up tilt is much weaker, now made for combos but weakening its KO power. It also deals half the damage it dealt in Brawl.
  • Nerf Farore's Wind appears to have lowered scaling.
    • Buff It is much stronger upon reappearing and deals more damage, however.
  • Nerf Down throw deals less damage.
  • Nerf Dash attack's late hit deals slightly less damage.
  • Change Forward tilt has new visual effects to match its slash effect.
    • Nerf It no longer sends opponents backwards, removing its combo potential.
  • Change Zelda seems to have gotten a new air dodge animation. She now does a pose similar to Zero Suit Samus's air dodge's pose.
  • Change Zelda has a new sidestep pose. It now resembles Peach's.
  • The following moves appear visually unchanged:
    • Neutral attack
    • Down tilt
    • Forward smash
    • Back aerial
    • Pummel
    • Back throw
    • Light Arrow
    • All taunts
    • Rolling animation

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but Zelda's have yet to be seen. Zelda retains her final smash as well as three of her original special moves. Transform has been replaced with Phantom Slash, due to Sheik becoming her own character. These are Zelda's special moves:
