Picture

If any of you are wondering, this picture comes from right after our school production of Cats, the musical. I was in the ensemble. Yeah, make-up and spandex and wigs and all that. MaskedMarth (t c) 00:31, February 17, 2007 (GMT)

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!

I am 17 years old now! How......unimportant. But it's still my birthday, and 17 isn't all that bad a number, and I'm that much closer to 18 ^_^. MaskedMarth (t c) 19:43, April 4, 2007 (GMT)

Congrats Smiddle ( TalkConts ) 19:45, April 4, 2007 (GMT)
Yeesh! I thought all sysops at any given wiki were older than 20-year-old me... Instead of looking up to you I'm now going to end up looking down to you for your opinions on articles. But with the exact same amount of good faith, of course. ^_^ I'm still making Universe pages by the way, hope you like 'em. Erik the Appreciator 01:08, April 5, 2007 (GMT)
And I would post the lyrics to the Happy Birthday song on your talk page to show my Appreciation, but it's still considered a copyrighted song, actually, and the edit screen clearly states "DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION!", so unfortunately I can't. Sorry 'bout that. And isn't 21 a far more interesting age to attain than 18? :D Erik the Appreciator 01:13, April 5, 2007 (GMT)
Hahaha Erik, hasn't Happy Birthday entered the public domain by now? Though, I'll take your word for it, because you are aged and have many more years of experience. I guess 21 is more interesting, but I'm closer to 18, so that's the first thing I look forward to ^_^. MaskedMarth (t c) 02:34, April 5, 2007 (GMT)

wow

Your page is pretty sweet. I have to learn how to do all the cool formatting stuff.

So...

I stole your layout, I hope you don't mind. If you think it looks too similar, you should give me some hints on how to customize it. -James Sparrow

Well, thanks, that's very flattering! I'm perfectly fine with you stealing my layout - it has a long history of being stolen and reworked (I wonder what Blankfaze thinks of it all ^_^). I don't know too much about wikicode, but one thing you can do is change the color of the boxes. Whenever you see something like #c080ff, that's the code for color. "c0" stands for the amount of red, "80" the amount of green, and "ff" the amount of blue, and each of these numbers is in hexadecimal (base sixteen) so there are digits 0 through 9, and then a through f (after "f" comes "10"). You may know all that already, but if you want to give your page your own personal coloration, that's how! MaskedMarth (t c) 14:31, April 23, 2007 (GMT)
Nice, I will try that. Thanks. I also am going to try to figure out the signature thing. -James Sparrow
Odds are Blankfaze is still alive, but if he weren't, he would no doubt be rolling in his grave. Especially considering that he doesn't even have that layout on his wiki page anymore. :^) When did you get sysop powers, Masked? It's about time, now maybe we can start getting things done. -- Randall00 Talk 10:19, June 20, 2007 (EDT)
Haha, I think variations on your and my userpage are crawling all over the place! Actually, I've had sysop powers for a while. I'm just lazy :p. If you ever want to get me to do something, just ask :). MaskedMarth (t c) 17:14, June 20, 2007 (EDT)
I'll keep that in mind. In my years of service to Smash World Forums, I've learned that my own sysop powers are nigh impossible to obtain, so it's good to have someone to go to. I'm sure I've got a list of things to do with admin powers kickin' around at work somewhere. Maybe I'll have a look tomorrow. -- Randall00 Talk 03:03, June 21, 2007 (EDT)

Need a little bit of help..

Hey MaskedMarth, Blackadder here. I'm new to this Wiki (Though a long time member of another Wiki, so I know the general rules) and I was wondering, (and this is somthing that always plauges me on Wikis) how do I make the page I made on the crew I'm in have "other ways of access" to it? Currently, you have to type in "Dawn Patrol" if you wan't to view the page, and I would like to know, how can I make it so you need only to type in "DP" and it'll come up with the page? Thanks for listening,

- Blackadder

Those are redirect pages and to do so, you would create an article under "DP" and have its content include only the following:
#REDIRECT [[Dawn Patrol]]
However, it should be noted that you should only create appropriate redirects. If the crew is actually known as both Dawn Patrol and DP in smash circles, then I could see it. But if you're creating a redirect just because yer too lazy to type out the words for your own editing purposes, the redirect would be promptly deleted.
If I were a sysop. :^) -- Randall00 Talk 14:51, July 14, 2007 (EDT)

Hmmmm...well, we do often get just called "DP". I'll give it a whirl, and hope that for the best that no one deletes it. If they do, not big loss. Thanks for your help Randall!

- Blackadder

Sorry for not replying for a while - I was away at camp. At worst we would have to create a disambig page for DP if anything else turns up with that abbreviation. So, go ahead. MaskedMarth (t c) 13:42, August 29, 2007 (EDT)

Thank god.

I finally found a sysop. I'm new to wiki editing entirely, and I don't even know how to add new subjects to pages besides talk pages. I've been trying to nicely edit my page to look good, but to no avail. I'm a very very quick learner when it comes to video games and the computer, and some consider me the best in my school. Considering there's only about 10 other people who play as much as me, that's not the best title to acheive. But I just can't figure out how to have bullets and separate sections and all that. If you could help me a little, that'd be great. Also, I told FyreN'water, but I have an unmarked picture of Meta Knight from the original Dojo site, as well as a copy of the theme song, but I don't know how to post them. I'd be glad to send you any needed pictures of smash If you could tell me your email. I suck at wiki editing. I am very creative too, and I like to make up my own Smash brothers story, using multiple controlers or some friends or cousins, the stages, and the characters (items off) and intertwine them into my own story. That's why I want to separate my page, so I can have and "about me" section and more, including a "My Smash Story" section. Can you help?

--ShadowZeroKaras 04:17, August 30, 2007 (EDT)

Yep, I'd be happy to help! You're lucky to have caught me, I just spent eight weeks at camp ;). This wiki should really have a guide to this stuff - I'll try to remind myself to write it. In any case, I'll show you the basics, that you asked about.
  • How to make a new section:
To make a section header, all you do is add two equals signs around what you want to have as your section. Thus, the section of this discussion on my talk page is written like this: == Thank god. ==. Very useful to know. You can also make subsections by using three equals signs: === Subsection ===, or a subsubsection by using four equals signs, etc.
  • How to use bullets
Before each phrase you want bulleted, add an asterisk (*) at the beginning of the line. Thus:

* Bullet point 1

turns into

  • Bullet point 2

Pretty neat, eh?

  • How to indent.
Simply put a color at the beginning of the line.
  • How to add a picture
On the left-hand navigation, you can see near the bottom (below the search box) a link that says "upload file." This is the place to upload pictures (though make sure that you stay in accordance to image policy). Basically, you upload your picture, suppose it's called "Brinstardepths.jpg." You go to the page you want to put the image on, and you type [[Image:Brinstardepths.jpg]].
I think you can upload a music file too, but I've never tried it before.
Incidentally, if you're ever curious about something you can press "edit" and look at the code. That's how I learned wikicode, basically. For instance, how does one do this:

A message in a box

Well, you could press edit on this section, and look at the wikicode I used to cause the box and typeface. Pretty nifty. I'm always here if you have any questions! MaskedMarth (t c) 20:50, August 30, 2007 (EDT)

Thanks! --ShadowZeroKaras 01:35, September 2, 2007 (EDT)

Hmm this is Hylian88 >_>..I really don't know how to use this well lol. Hmm It would be cool if I could get a page in the Smashers section but I can't figure it out >_>... --Hylian

What? A shortage of sysops? Unheard of!

What's up, Masked? Word on the street is that you're the hitman I must hire to snuff out certain problematic SmashWiki tasks. Ssb 64 pros should've been deleted a long time ago, and now we've got User:Zinnamon make random edits to peoples' articles and being totally ignorant of the fact that this is a community-built website with some reasonable sense of standardization and control. Take a browse through the Recent changes log and you'll find that it's a busy time for the administrative hammer. As per usual, I only wish I could do more to help than simply filling out a report. -- RJM Talk 13:05, October 15, 2007 (EDT)

not random i just base on other facts dont confuse me!!!it said that jiangshadow was practicing wavedash with the controller. You may say that im submitting erroneus info not random. i explained the B-Run misunderstood two.--Zinnamon 19:14, October 15, 2007 (EDT)
You are filling out erroneous information. Stop. Now. -- RJM Talk 19:24, October 15, 2007 (EDT)
hey, a shortage of sysops. what a coincidence, i'm looking into becoming a sysop! *hinthint* seriously, how do i go about doing that? there's a list of like 20 pages i have that are basically joke pages and need deletion immediately. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 23:50, October 17, 2007 (EDT)
It's rare for SWF to hire appropriate staff members. I wish you luck. -- RJM Talk 10:52, October 18, 2007 (EDT)
I apologize for my long absence. If there's anything you'd like me to work on, get me now :) MaskedMarth (t c) 21:21, November 2, 2007 (EDT)
Alas, the queue has grown beyond the abilities of one man! Godspeed soldier! --RJM Talk 21:23, November 2, 2007 (EDT)
What? Im sorry I shouldn't be apearing like this, but I dont get what RJM its saying. (I know that they won't understand what I just post) --Fandangox 21:25, November 2, 2007 (EDT)

Tpla

all that user has done is vandalize. i went back and reverted it all, but the kid still needs a ban. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 14:33, October 31, 2007 (EDT)

I concur. Aside from vandalizing, the info that has been used in the vandalization was obviously used with the intent of insulting the competitive Smash community, which is an example of casual elitism. If at all possible, I say block his I.P. Address as well. A large part of the Wiki is built upon trust, and users like Tpla go against that. NeonCrusader 15:41, November 1, 2007 (EDT)

Done. MaskedMarth (t c) 21:24, November 2, 2007 (EDT)

not to bring it up again and all...

i'd really like to be able to contribute more to the SmashWiki. i'm on the site almost daily and often do things like cleaning up vandalism, adding information to new pages, and tagging old ones to be cleaned up or expanded. i would love to have more powers when it comes to deleting bad pages, warning vandals, and basically helping out the site. i was wondering how i could go about finding how i could get administrative powers and such. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 23:04, November 2, 2007 (EDT)

Well, I cannot give administrative powers - although the Wiki software calls me an "administrator," I'm more similar to a moderator on Smashboards - I have some powers, but I can't give other people powers. The people to ask would be User:Kirby King or User:Gideon. Good luck! MaskedMarth (t c) 09:44, November 3, 2007 (EDT)
The call for more SysOps was largely ignored in the official SmashWiki thread on the forums and I wouldn't anticipate that their talk pages are checked more often, but yes, good luck. --RJM Talk 11:47, November 3, 2007 (EDT)

User:Zinnamon

(contributions) basically every edit this kid has made has been reverted and every page nominated for deletion. he's trying really hard, but making a complete mess out of everything. i wouldn't say to ban him, but to temporarily take away his editing abilities until he learns to stop making up fake (and impossible) combo pages, countless erroneous edits on smash articles, and basically stops getting in everyone's way. i don't want to be harsh, but he's making things harder for everyone who has to delete his pages and revert his edits. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 20:02, November 5, 2007 (EST)

By your suggestion I gave him a one-week block, and outlined the reasons in his talk page. MaskedMarth (t c) 19:15, November 7, 2007 (EST)

I surely learned masked but pay atention to my delete tags please.--Zinnamon 10:24, November 14, 2007 (EST)

OK, I will. Thanks. MaskedMarth (t c) 21:43, November 14, 2007 (EST)

Smashers articles

Hey you know after you banned Zinnamon he is trying to follow the rules like he never did before, but he found a rule about deleting smashers articles that haven't participated in a tournament.. its is in the rules, but that would be deleting almost half of the pages and no one really make such a big deal for that what do you think we should do? --Fandangox 21:54, November 14, 2007 (EST)

Hmm. I understand where you're coming from, but people's "vanity pages" really add nothing to this project, so it could only help to delete the clutter. I've considered putting parameters like this on Smasher pages before. So I say, his delete tags are fine, and I'll accept them. However, to prevent smashers from putting up pages for themselves, and then getting pissed when they get deleted, I'm going to make the policies about smasher pages more clear.
