My name is Blackburn Renard, but everyone calls me Black Vulpine (ブラック・ヴァルパイン). I'm a furry! Don't be intimidated by my face though, I'm a nice fox, just a little... short-tempered. I lurk this wiki at 5am to divert evil game and watch haters. Fear not your wiki page is safe while i'm around

All hail the Furry Nation! Furries make the Internets go.

Skills and Abilities

Short Range combat

Highly aggressive, especially when playing as Yoshi. Will attack rapidly or use strong attacks. If opponent counter-spams, I will generally time a smash attack against it, or grab them. I will also grab if the opponent is shielding. If the opponent is trying to camp and/or focus on long range combat, I'll try to keep closing the distance to put the pressure on.

Long Range combat

Don't like camping. But doesn't mean I won't, or don't know how to. If playing as someone with projectile or long-range attacks I will often use those, aiming them at the opponent if possible. If the opponent is charging, I generally use a projectile (like Egg Throw) to break or stop their charge and allow me to turn the table. For approaches, I'll usually just throw out a dash attack or grab, although sometimes I'll run past the opponent without doing anything.

Punishing

I most often apply this to edge campers. If someone hangs out on a ledge for too long, or in SSB4, jumps off the ledge then grabs it again, I'll throw out a down-smash or even a meteor to punish them. If I'm playing as Bayonetta, watch out!

In other cases, my skills at punishing are sub-par, as I generally have my other options covered rather than committing to one option that will have a powerful result. However, when I'm playing as Little Mac with a KO Uppercut ready, if you throw out a counter or have a point-blank attack blocked, you're doomed.

Edge Guarding

Depends on who I'm playing as, but generally my edge guarding game is pretty average. In some cases I will stay on the edge and spam projectiles, while in other cases, I'll go after them and try to make sure the job is finished. If I'm playing as Yoshi especially, I have the capacity to jump DOWN for you as well as up.

Recovery

I'm better than most people at this. I also will often try to attack any edge-guarders, though I may also simply evade them. I will also often position myself to make getting hit by meteor attacks or other edge guarding moves very difficult. For those that do manage to get close, I'll either counter or dodge.

Meteors

My favourite thing to do. There's nothing more satisfying than sending a reeling opponent from going straight down to their doom, and if you're just a little bit off with your recovery defence, you're doing down. Literally.

I have perfected meteor techniques for Yoshi, Mr. Game & Watch, Bayonetta, Donkey Kong, Mewtwo and Charizard. I'm also working on techniques for Ike and Shulk, so hopefully it won't be long before I can do those guys efficiently.

Tech Skill

Skill Competency
Floor Tech Don't often use, but when I do, it will often result in confounding the opponent, enabling a punish.
Ceiling & Wall Tech Sometimes.
DI Often.
Ledge Drop Attack Sometimes. I generally prefer to attack edge campers from the ground, so unless the character I'm playing has a down-air for a meteor, I won't do this.

Favourite Methodologies and Sayings

🚫 WE TECH THOSE 🚫

Stage spikes. They get the scrubs every time...

Always Disrespect

Yes, I'm one of those people. Just because they're going to fall and get KO'd doesn't mean I'm going to be satisfied. I want the opponent to KNOW how much contempt I have for them. (I seriously think we need an article about this...)

Showboating

Extending from Disrespect, I'll do various things to play mindgames with the opponent. Ranging from randomly taunting or doing acrobatics to pretending to SD. If I end up breaking your shield or stunning you for any reason, chances are I'll do a quick foxtrot across your character before finishing you off.

Reading & Baiting

This one's pretty new for me, but vital nonetheless. I've faced opponents like Marth, Bowser Jr. and Peach so often now that I've gotten good at understanding what strategies the majority of their players use. Of course, there's going to be the odd one that uses a different strategy, but I'm also good at planning on the fly. In either case, I will often attempt to read for things like a counter, air dodge, or reflector. If my read is successful, then the punishment is brutal.

To extend from this, I can also bait certain players such as over-eager edgeguarders, and force errors out of them. For instance, if I'm playing as Mewtwo, hovering below the edge, just daring a Marth or Lucina to come after me, you decide to do so, but then I Teleport back up to the ledge, and presto, you've invested too much in that meteor, and there's no way back for you. Guess what? You've been baited.
