Rickety (born April 2, 1987) is an American smasher, currently living in San Diego, California. His main character since his debut into the tournament scene has been Sheik in both singles and doubles. Rickety is considered one of friendliest players in the smash community, and is known for always trying to help out the entire community. He is currently a member of the San Diego Love! ♥ crew.

Biography

Rickety first began smashing competitively in 2002, when he began hosting a series of tournaments at the local high school. This series of monthly tournaments after class came to be known as the King of the High School series, and was the starting point of Rickety's competitive smash career. Inspired by videos of the Punch Crew and the matches between Ken and Azen, his interest in the game quickly grew, and by 2003, he hoped to one day become an active member of the larger community. However, the larger San Diego scene, completely nonexistent at the time, led a disheartened Rickety to instead take up Capcom Vs SNK 2 competitively instead.

In 2005, fueled by the MELEE-FC3 regional crew battle videos, Rickety returned to the smash community and found a tournament held at another high school. Out of the more than eighty entrants, Rickety placed 5th. That December, Rickety met Edrees, and the two of them met up with CAOTIC on his first night in America and played together. The three vowed to create a strong San Diego scene in the following year.

In the February of 2006, CAOTIC began hosting the San DIego triweeklies, a now-regular series of tournaments that continue to this day. The new, robust scene led to Rickety becoming close friends with CAOTIC, and eventually in the Summer of 2006, the two of them participated the SoCal Road Trip, a nine day trip from San Diego to Canada. Throughout the trip, they were housed by various smashers along the coast, including Hyugaricdeau, t0mmy and t1mmy, and the SKYPAL house.

As 2006 drew to a close, Rickety's close ties with several of the new players led to the creation of the Team Harmony crew. Although now disbanded, the Harmony crew still keeps in contact with one another and occasionally reunites to play visiting crews, most recently versus a team of four French smashers he housed the weekend before Genesis.

In addition to being a staff member for OC3, Rickety has since become close friends with Ken, ManaCloud, and the rest of the Socal Elite 4.

In the weeks after OC3, Rickety became close friends with Chu Dat, PC Chris, and milktea while he housed them in the week before Evo West. Together, along with local San Diego friend WayChu, they formed a crew known as Team Kirra.

At Super Champ Combo, Rickety surprised everyone when he defeated his smash hero, Azen, in his pool. Rickety, moved with emotion, began to tear up, and embraced him.

Despite his occasional participation in tournaments after Super Champ Combo, Rickety prefers to stay involved with the community for its social aspects rather than as a participant.

Trivia

  • Although widely thought of as a bulimic, Rickety is happy to report that his love of food is much too great for something like that.
