Article on Bulbapedia Shadow Sneak (move)

Shadow Sneak (かげうち, Shadow Strike) is Greninja's side special move in Super Smash Bros. 4. The move allows Greninja to suddenly disappear and reappear to ambush foes. The longer the button is held down, the greater the distance, and Greninja can still move about freely while charging.[1]

When performed, a duplicate of Greninja's shadow on the floor will move forward as long as the B button is pressed. Releasing the button will teleport Greninja to the shadow, doing a quick flip kick upon reappearing. Due to the shadow being the only indicator, performing the move in the air or on a stage where the shadow is less visible (e.g. Pictochat) makes timing the move more difficult.

Customization

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the known variations:

  1. Intense Shadow Sneak: Shadow moves slower through the ground, Shadow can move farther away, attack deals more knockback
  2. Speedy Shadow Sneak: Teleport is instant, no moving Shadow. It teleports a specific distance equal to about 75% of Shadow Sneak's max range. Attack deals less knockback.

Origin

Shadow Sneak in Generation IV Pokémon games.

In the Pokémon games, Shadow Sneak is a variant of Quick Attack. It is a physical Ghost-type attack introduced in Generation IV with base power of 40, 30 PP, and 100% accuracy. Greninja is capable of learning this move, but at level 23, long before it evolves, so it requires the Move Reminder to learn it.
