Arcfire (ギガファイアー, Gigafire) is Robin's side special move in Super Smash Bros. 4.

Overview

Upon use, Robin produces a ball of fire above his head, which travels in an angle downward. If the flame makes contact with a surface or an opponent, it bursts into a pillar of fire; if it hits nothing, it disappears harmlessly. The move traps opponents in a multiple hitting flame which inflicts a total of 10% damage and knocks opponents away on the final hit, similar to PK Fire; however, unlike PK Fire, Arcfire's final hit has KO potential at very high percents, KOing at 200%. This move also sets Robin's active Tome to Arcfire, if not already in use.

Arcfire has limited uses at point blank range as the fireball travels too high over most fighter's heads and will typically miss, therefore it finds a better use at medium ranges as an option to stop approaches. It is also a great combo starter as opponents trapped in Arcfire on the ground can be grabbed if the player is fast enough, while the final hit places opponents at the right height for a neutral or forward air-- if one is quick and accurate enough, the move can combo into Nosferatu as well, though the timing for this is difficult to accomplish.

After 6 uses, the fire tome will be discarded due to durability being used up by Robin and he/she will only perform the animation for the spell with no special effects during this time. The cooldown time is 10 seconds, which after that, Robin's fire tome will be replaced with a new one and the move can be used again.

Robin's jab finisher also draws from the same durability of Arcfire, with a maximum of 6 uses. If Arcfire's uses run out, Robin will be unable to use his jab finisher and can only use his Elwind jab infinite; if Elwind runs out as well, Robin will only be able to use his first two hits of his jab.

Customization

Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

  1. Arcfire+: The spell explodes when it lands. Takes longer to cast.
  2. Fire Wall: Create a pillar of flame that can guard against attacks.

Origin

The Arc- (or "Giga" in the Japanese versions) series is the third stage of anima tomes, and was introduced in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Arcfire, as its name implies, is the fire variant. The pose that Robin makes is the same as the ones that the mages in the GBA games do when they use tomes.

Trivia

  • Robin's Final Smash, Pair Up, has him using Bolganone, a fire spell one rank higher than Arcfire. However, the cover of the tome Robin uses in his Final Smash is the same as Arcfire, possibly due to the developers not wanting to create a Bolganone cover, a minute detail that is difficult to spot.
