Major tournament?

To be honest, I couldn't tell you. I was there, and the event was far more focused on the other fighting games (as it was a Capcom Pro Tour event), and while the Smash area was dedicated and each game did have a pot bonus of $1000, it wasn't necessarily the biggest Smash tournament that Canada had, even at that time. For Melee, most certainly not, but for Smash 4, maybe. The 100+ for Smash 4 make it a Canadian National (for the time), but I agree Canada Cup isn't a high profile Smash event. Even in the Street Fighter community it's a small tournament, with some high profile international attendees. It's not a major or a national, it's a regional (Ally was the only Top 10 player there... and if we go by the PG list, he was the only Top 50 player there, too). 100+ entrants doesn't automatically make a tournament a national, it's just simply the baseline for a tournament to be considered one.
