Any thoughts on using this template? Miles (talk) 20:00, 22 December 2014 (EST)

I'm not so sure. There's a small amount of pages that don't have their Japanese name, and when/if we do come across a page without its Japanese name, we're probably just going to add the Japanese name anyways, so I would see little use of this template. Then again, most of us don't know Japanese, but then there's Google Translate… yeah, I'm neutral, but leaning towards oppose with use of this template. Having recently gone through many lists of pages in standardizing {{ja}}, I can tell you there are quite a few in need of it. Stages and items in particular. Miles (talk) 20:16, 22 December 2014 (EST)
Yeah, but what I'm saying is that when/if we find those pages, we're just going to add the Japanese name anyways, so use of this template would be very, very minimal, if we use it at all. Isn't the point of any template like this to mark work to be done? I don't assume every user can dig up reliable official sources for all the missing names. Miles (talk) 20:25, 22 December 2014 (EST)

Bump. Would like to start using this if there's no opposition. Miles (talk) 21:09, 1 January 2015 (EST)

More general applicability[edit]

While browsing through pages with the incomplete tag, I stumbled upon Lucario's SSB4 page which is missing the Japanese versions of its victory quotes. I think it would be useful to widen the scope of this template by extending it to "Japanese version missing" instead of just "Japanese name missing". -Menshay (talk) 09:23, 16 June 2017 (EDT)

Expand template to other languages[edit]

Jpneeded was introduced before we've begun using {{langtable}} and stopped solely covering Japanese on pages. The problem is that many langtable instances are incomplete and need a template to tag the page and specify the missing language information. Jpneeded can't be used in this situation, as it's exclusive to Japanese and lacks a "reason" field; the alternative used was {{incomplete}}, which lumps the pages in the more general Category:Articles with incomplete sections, making it more difficult to isolate them.

I propose the template be changed to a more general "langneeded" template with an optional field for specifying what language information is needed. This would solve the earlier problem and the template would be much more usable than it is now. {{japanese name}} could also be similarly changed.

I've recently begun mass editing the special move pages, some of which have this problem. I'm proposing this now so I won't need to edit them again later. For use as my signature icon. Nokii — 17:05, December 5, 2020 (EST)

Support. I know I tagged several Spirit Board event langtables as "incomplete" because there wasn't a better alternative (Didn't help I didn't know Jpneeded existed). --CanvasK (talk) 17:18, December 5, 2020 (EST)
