What is shield lag?[edit]
Not sure if anyone is going to read this, but what is shield lag? I was reading the overview and I understood the part that says ZSS will not suffer from hitlag when she lands the move. However, I don't understand the part where it says her opponent will go through shield lag while she doesn't. SacredFire37 (talk) 12:55, July 24, 2021
- What the editor meant by that was, even if you strike a shield, you and the fighter shielding will still go through hitlag. ZSS's down smash, being a projectile, will cause the person shielding to go through hitlag while shielding, while ZSS won't since the hitbox is actually a projectile. Being able to skip 9 frames of hitlag massively decreases the amount of frame disadvantage the move has against shield, making it -4 (as opposed to -13). Mariogeek2 (talk) 18:01, June 8, 2025 (EDT)
Should timing be changed to reflect the hit is a projectile?[edit]
Section title. As the article mentions, the hit is actually considered an unreflectable projectile, which is what causes ZSS to skip the hitlag frames. This is also true for d-smash in Sm4sh, but not Ultimate. Should the move page's timing section for Brawl and Sm4sh be changed to reflect that, so that the FrameStrips include a prop event? - I don't know when this page was changed or who did it to claim the move is a projectile, but it is not - the hitbox is attached to ZSS like a typical move. Toomai Glittershine

- Then why, in Brawl and 4, does it not put through ZSS through hitlag (according to the SSBU Move overview)? Mariogeek2 (talk) 08:44, June 10, 2025 (EDT)
- If I remember correctly, it's how the paralyze effect works: neither the attacker nor the victim receive any freeze frames, and then the victim is paralysed. Toomai Glittershine

- Ahhh, ok. Good to know; I appreciate the help 👍 Mariogeek2 (talk) 11:27, June 11, 2025 (EDT)
