Brinstar Comparison[edit]

Brinstar and Planet Zebes are almost exact carbon copies of each other, minus details. I'm not trying to compare Brinstar with Magicant because of the huge amount of obvious differences, but Brinstar and Planet Zebes is fun trivia; if it doesn't deserve its own section then I believe it should be in the trivia section. I think the comparison section should stay, but only if the page for Sector Z gets a comparison section as well. Sector Z is similar to Planet Zebes in this regard. Smore (talk) 22:23, 29 September 2018 (EDT)

Oppose. Since I started this dispute, I guess I should expand on what I'm trying to say. The page for Planet Zebes is the only one I've seen on the wiki to have a "Comparisons" section - not even Brinstar, the stage it's being compared to, has a corresponding section. If nobody bothered to do anything about this for 10 years, then it is clear to me that "Comparisons" sections have never been seen as particularly important or necessary.

While you are correct that it's unlikely that anyone would try and use the widespread adoption of "Comparisons" sections to compare stages like Planet Zebes and Magicant, a can of worms is opened up. You have Planet Zebes/Brinstar (both are Metroid stages taking place in a cave with yellow lava), Sector Z/Corneria/Orbital Gate Assault (all three take place on a side profile of the Great Fox), Dream Land/Green Greens (both take place in front of Whispy Woods), Peach's Castle/Princess Peach's Castle (both take place on top of Peach's castle), Pokémon Stadium/Pokémon Stadium 2 (both are different versions of the same thing), Mushroom Kingdom 64/Melee Mushroom Kingdom/Mushroomy Kingdom (all based on the first level of Super Mario Bros.), Smashville/Town and City (both are simplistic, tournament-legal Animal Crossing stages with slight platform variations), and these are just the obvious ones. The biggest problem, perhaps, is that it's subjective to decide which stage should or should not be compared to another stage. Someone might want to compare Icicle Mountain with Rumble Falls because they're both vertical scrolling stages, while someone else might argue that since they aren't from the same universe, they shouldn't be compared. The same applies for Dream Land/Battlefield, and so on.

Overall, I see this as a near-infinite source of future arguments over something that is not really necessary to put on the pages to begin with. If everyone disagrees with me, I'll go along with the change but we have to conclusively determine what sorts of stages can be compared to others.
