Confusion[edit]

If Pikachu is the best character in this game, why isn't he high up on the Melee tier list? The same goes for Ness and Kirby. Are they really that much weaker in Melee? I notice no differences. - GalaxiaD, 11:48 PM, April 18, 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.253.174.246 (talkcontribs) 04:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Characters can change greatly from game to game. Also, with the addition of new characters (or changes in them), they probably surpassed Pikachu. FyreNWater - (TalkContributions ) 05:01, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

to answer your question[edit]

Another reason why is that different games specified different types of characters. The top tier of smash 64 pikachu has the most broken recovery of any smash game (maybe Metaknight is more or rob/Jigglypuff) and no one else has as good a recovery in Smash 64. Kirby can be down tilted or down smashed easily while jigglypuff doesn't have high downwards priority so you can just up air. Also, pikachu has incredible priority and played well like Isai, pikachu can 0 to death because of it's incredible comboing aerials. Many people say that fox would be top tier in the game if pikachu had a weaker recovery due to his lasers regardless of his recovery. The smash 64 metagame reflects combos (as in why falcon is so high), approach (for fox lasers, for pikachu aerials and throws, for kirby up tilt and down air etc.), recovery (especially with pikachu), but most important is priority (as in kirby and pikachu). In melee, the top character fox has good recovery but it was more important that fox could gimp and had high priority. Many characters had better recovery but this did not matter due to fox's shine and kill combos. It wasn't just about recovery anymore since one character did not have a broken recovery (like smash 64). This game was more about quick hits and quick kills. In brawl, it is more important about a combination of quickness, priority, approach, and for metaknight recovery. Metaknight has combos, priority, approach, and an overpowered recovery. Snake has combos and too powerful priority. User:KoRoBeNiKi

Isai[edit]

Does Isai main Pikachu because I don't see him use Pika that much and I heard that he mains Falcon and Link. So who does Isai main? Doc King (talk) 23:24, June 5, 2010 (UTC)

Best Recovery?[edit]

I think Kirby has the best recovery in the game because he has 5 midair jumps and he can copy jigglypuff's ability to gain some horizontal distance (Pound)! Doc King (talk) 23:24, June 5, 2010 (UTC)

I agree, but KoRo is a professional at this game, so I'd trust him. Mr. Anon (talk) 23:26, June 5, 2010 (UTC)

matchups[edit]

Can I include that Pikachu's 64 apperance is the only character without disadvantage or even matchup? ..... recalculating NessHeadSSBB.png 15:17, 9 July 2011 (EDT)

Well then I guess not. ..... Pylons? NessHeadSSBB.png 17:40, 11 July 2011 (EDT)
Matchup trivia is generally looked down upon, especially since consensus on matchup opinions is very prone to changing, and thus making such trivia prone to being suddenly false. So I would advise against it. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 17:57, 11 July 2011 (EDT)
Knew it. ..... Pylons? NessHeadSSBB.png 18:41, 11 July 2011 (EDT)
If we're talking about the series in general, Meta knight has an even matchup with him in Brawl. 96.251.166.38 14:18, 10 August 2013 (EDT)
This isn't the series in general though, just Smash 64. Scr7Wolfsig.png 14:24, 10 August 2013 (EDT)

Trivia[edit]

The trivia of this page claims that "Pikachu, Link, Kirby, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong" are the only characters in SSB who move their mouths. I'm not sure if this is correct-I'm sure I've seen Ness move his mouth, for instance. It's a small point, but still... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.32.45.127 (talkcontribs) 00:22, 13 October 2011
