Forum:Why do people play Sonic?
Seriously, I can't figure this out. He's not a good character, he has like one special move that might work, and horrible start-up lag on any of his killing moves. The only reason I can figure out is that people are like "ZOMG SOINC IZ AUESOWME" but that doesn't make sense either, considering he hasn't been in a good game since maybe Sonic Adventure 2:Battle and even that is questionable. He's a ridiculous character thrown in to make people happy because of some stupid April Fools joke and he doesn't have a good move. Twilight just satisfies the tween girl's desire for very pale, white-skinned boys. Additionally, Sonic really is just for the fanboys, but the game is about fun. If they have fun playing as a bad character, who are we to blame them? Miles (talk) 19:44, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps because, as Shadowcrest used to claim himself to be, we are all "tin-plated dictators with delusions of godhood". I also think that people are attracted to Sonic because he has a kind of immature "nyah-nyah" personality, e.g. "You're too slow!" o_O--Bek (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Saying that Sonic sucks is an opinion (yes I do realize the tier placement but tiers change), Sonic Adventure 2: Battle being the last good Sonic game is an opinion, and he doesn't have any good moves is an opinion. It's all on how you use him, your strategy, and what character you're already used to. Sonic isn't for fanboys. I can admit, Sonic's games lately haven't been the best but, there are people out there who like the games (appearantly these days, if you like a video game you're automatically a fanboy). If a combo video where sonic is played (marginally) well is evidence that he's a good character, then is a combo video where sonic gets his ass kicked by Captain Falcon evidence he's a bad character, because I can whip one up?
Okay, so that's a bit of a fallacious argument, but still. Look at the first two clips. He gets ahead of the Samus (who is a lower tiered character to begin with) and then the next clip they're even, which means there's an awful lot of suck that we're not being shown. Combo videos don't show the suck, but it's obviously there. The next clip iirc is of a R.O.B who's up on him 3-1 to that point. Also, there, a lot of suck not being shown, but is still there. Eh. I don't know about anyone else, but I play characters because of who they are, not how they do. Do I main Yoshi because of the DR and grab-release? No, I play him because I'm a Yoshi fan. I've mained him in all three games of the series regardless of tier placement or public opinion. If that comes down to being a "fanboy", then so be it. I'd say that people play as Sonic either because they are "fanboys", or Sonic just suits their playstyle, and some people don't care about tiers. Also, combo videos don't show if a character is good or bad, as they cut out all of the suck. Show us some videos of good sonic players in actual matches.
