Hi, I was wondering what everyone thinks about having a file info template, so that the description, source, and other info aren't scattered all over the place. I currently have one drafted here. While it does resemble the about file template from Super Mario Wiki, I lifted this version more directly from the exact revision from Wookiepedia. I'm in support of this. To address any potential concerns, we don't need to be seen as copying Super Mario Wiki if the template originated from a different source to begin with. - I think that we are definitely in need of a template like this. MarioWiki actually got the design inspiration for its aboutfile template from that same Wookieepedia template. Maybe we could call ours
{{file info}}. However, finding the sources for some files could be difficult.

Oppose. To be frank, I've always considered these to be a pain in the ass to deal with, and I question how much merit they even have to justify how tedious they make the process of uploading even a single file. Alex the Weeb 21:17, August 28, 2026 (UTC)
- Vote to oppose as well. I'm generally on the side of whatever makes editing the wiki easier for better results, and this feels like more work for little tangible benefit. --Flippy (talk) 00:04, August 29, 2026 (UTC)

- tbh makes it even less necessary imo, if there's no obligation to use it uploaders would likely skip or not know about it, and it'd mean even less motivation to go back and re-add it for every image. --Flippy (talk) 03:01, August 29, 2026 (UTC)

- all the information conveyed by the template can simply be added manually if an editor chooses to do so as-is. There's no purpose in creating an entire template to do so if there's no specific use case and users are not expected to use it. this proposal feels like a solution in search of a problem if i'm being honest --Flippy (talk) 03:35, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
