:"Freezies slip and slide along smooth surfaces and will happily slide off the edge of a stage if left alone. In ''Mario Bros.'', they would stop and freeze portions of the ground; in ''Super Smash Bros. Melee'', they can be picked up and hurled as weapons. Hit a foe with a Freezie, and he or she will be temporarily encased in a huge block of ice."

Item class Throwing

Announced at E3 2001, The Freezie is an item that slowly slides across the stage. When hit by any attack, it will shatter. When thrown at a character, it will freeze him/her and knock him/her into the air. It originates from the first Mario Bros. game, but is often associated with the Ice Climbers, even in Melee's own Adventure Mode.

  • Direct smash throw does 25% damage.
  • Tap A throw does 22% damage.
  • Being frozen lasts for 5 seconds. Smashing the control stick back and forth shortens this time.
  • If hit with fire, the block breakes up and the character receives only damage with no impact force.
