GENESIS 8 is an upcoming supermajor tournament for Melee and Ultimate and the 8th edition of the GENESIS tournament series. It is set to take place in San Jose, California, from April 15th-17th, 2022. The event will feature singles and doubles tournaments for Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and will be a major event for Rivals of Aether, Guilty Gear Strive, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. GENESIS 8 will also feature side events for Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, Magical Drop III, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Windjammers 2.

The event was originally set to take place between January 28th-30th, but was postponed to April due to concerns over the high amount of cases of COVID-19.[1] A charity event called GenAssist was made to help the GENESIS 8 crew with the six-figure cost of postponing GENESIS 8, which partnered with the online Melee tournament Ludwig Ahgren Championship Series 4.
