- Z button also works to raise the shield in Melee. I will proceed to change that. - Darth Roostertail (talk) 01:41, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

It also does in Brawl, after the grab finishes. --Shadowcrest 01:45, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

- I know. I have edited it so that it implies that L, R or Z can be used in all 3 games.-Darth Roostertail (talk) 01:48, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Immediate Z shield in Melee[edit]

Sometimes when I press Z in Melee, the character shields without grabbing first. Does this happen to anyone else, or could it be that I just happen to stub the R button? - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 16:57, 3 August 2013 (EDT)

Nope. The Z button on the GC acts the same as the "-" button on the Wiimote. It executes commands for both shield and attack at the same time. Sometimes it only registers one of these.75.85.64.155 16:30, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

Shield stun[edit]

I looked at the list of wanted pages, and 'Shield stun' is pretty high up there. In addition, shield stun isn't really defined clearly on the Wiki. There should at least be a note, like 'shield stun is a short period of time in which after an attack is shielded, the shielder is unable to act. The length of the shield stun is dependent on the attack shielded.' I wasn't really sure if I should put it in Out of Shield or Shield, and I didn't think it deserved a page of its own, and I wasn't sure if a redirect was proper, so . . . — Jigglypuff the Magic Dragon (talk) For use in the sig of user Jigglypuff the Magic Dragon. 20:21, 17 December 2013 (EST)

Yoshi's Shield Split[edit]

It's been ten days, and no one's said anything, so I thought I might start off the discussion by saying that there is already a page on Parrying, and I find the split un-necessary, and do not support it, although maybe updating the Parry page would be better as it's rather small. Laikue (talk) 15:32, 9 June 2014 (EDT)

I also find the current information on the parry page rather confusing...for example, the "light shield counter" listed here explains some effect that occurs whenever Yoshi perfect shields a move, while the light shield technique I'm talking about in the tag is a completely different thing, consisting of Yoshi rolling across the stage when hit in his shield. They're already explained to some extent in the section on this page, but they're obviously vague and not very detailed at the moment, and my main point is expanding them to the extent they deserve could easily clunk up space on this page. I guess the parry page could undergo a complete rewrite instead of making a page for Yoshi's shield, but as I said before, there are many Yoshi-exclusive shield techniques that may not belong on the parry page yet are still worth mentioning. I see your point, we should really put a "Technical Knowledge needed" tag on this page, and the parry page. That aside, I still don't think it needs it's own page, but considering how the Parry page is still up on it's own after four years, and it's stubly, I think it would be best to replace the parry page with a Yoshi's Shield page, because really why have half of Yoshi's shield techniques in a page, but not the other half? The parrying information would go nicely with other Yoshi shield techniques; it is probably best to make the parry page a section on a page for Yoshi's shield. Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 16:47, 9 June 2014 (EDT)

I'm not a fan of this split. Just fix up the parry page and add the rest of necessary info to this page; I don't think the section would be prohibitively large. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yellow 18:22, 9 June 2014 (EDT)

Yoshi can now jump out of shield, to avoid confusion between games we should probably split.71.119.32.252 20:44, 13 October 2014 (EDT)

Frame data[edit]

How long does it take for a shield to come up to defend the user and how long does it take to release and start another action? In other words, what is the startup and endlag on shields? The wiki should tell this to readers. -- EthanThis is a user image for Ethan7. Duplicate of: File:DiddyKongHeadBlueSSB4-U.png(Discussion) 16:24, 17 March 2016 (EDT)
