Pummel is the move done by any character by pressing the A or Z button after using a standard Z(R+A) Grab attack. Since the character is already holding the other in a grab, most pummels are knee jabs or headbutts. This move also works after using Bowser's Koopa Klaw, but does not work after other grab attacks such as CF's Falcon Dive or Kirby's Swallow. Pummeling can be used to rack up damage, or to trick your opponent into possibly messing up their DI. The higher your opponents damage is, the longer you can pummel before he or she escapes the grab. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, pummeling can be done much more quickly than it was in Melee.

Pummeling was first introduced in Melee and is not available in the first Smash Bros game.
