Onion (disambiguation)
Onions are small flying crafts found in the Pikmin series. They take on the appearance of tripedal spaceships. They are the home of the Pikmin. The color of Pikmin found in an onion corresponds to the color of the onion. If a Pikmin is to get a pellet to an onion, the onion can spawn new Pikmin. They release the colored Pikmin according to the onion's color {eg. red onion produces red Pikmin if given an item} Olimar named them Onions in the game Pikmin because they looked like fruit called onions on his home planet.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl they appear on the Distant Planet stage. They come in red, blue, and yellow. When a Pellet is thrown into one, items are released. Just like in the Pikmin games, color coordinating the Pellet you throw into the onion will net you more items. They appear randomly and fly away after awhile. You are also able to make one fly away more quickly by repeatedly attacking it. When hit, it jitters, and flies away more quickly than usual.

Items considered to be the places where Pikmin are born. As to the actual biology of the process, much is still unclear. Onions absorb the prey that Pikmin capture and use it to produce new Pikmin. In addition, Onions can take in Pikmin and later release them. These organisms are crowned with distinctive propeller-like sets of leaves that spin around, enabling them to fly.
