Jinjos are recurring collectibles in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise.

Origin

An orange Jinjo in Banjo-Kazooie.

Jinjos are magical bird-like creatures that appear prominently throughout the Banjo-Kazooie games. In the original Banjo-Kazooie, there are five differently-colored Jinjos - blue, green, orange, purple, and yellow - that are imprisoned by Gruntilda in every world, where they must be rescued by Banjo and Kazooie. When all five Jinjos are rescued, the duo is awarded one of the ten collectible Jiggies in every world. When revisiting a world, the five Jinjos still appear, but rescuing them grants the duo an extra life instead.

In Banjo-Kazooie, Jinjos also play a key role in the final boss battle against Gruntilda, who, in the second to last phase of the fight, has cast a spell to give her a shield immune to all attacks from both Banjo and Kazooie. Four Jinjo statues then rise up, and activating them summons four Jinjos, who attack Gruntilda, knocking her off her broom - after which, a single, large Jinjo statue rises up, dubbing itself as "The Mighty Jinjonator". After activating the statue, the four previously summoned Jinjos get absorbed by The Mighty Jinjonator, who rams into Gruntilda multiple times, before knocking her off of her tower with one final blow.

In Banjo-Tooie, the duo come across the Jinjos' homeplace, Jinjo Village, which is attacked by Gruntilda's Hag 1 machine, killing the grey Jinjos and scaring the rest away from the village. This results in King Jingaling asking for Banjo and Kazooie to help collect them and bring them back, before his life force is drained by the Winkybunion sisters' Big-O-Blaster. Four new colors of Jinjos are introduced - white, brown, red, and black -, and the duo is instead granted a Jiggy for every Jinjo family they manage to fully rescue, with the amount and colors varying across worlds. Additionally, Tooie introduces Minjos, arch-enemies of the Jinjos, who serve as imposters that attack Banjo and Kazooie if they come close.
