However, it does make a decent amount of sense to use it on pages like "tilt attack" as it's not an official term, with the counter-argument being that there is an official term that's noted on the page which may confuse people with how the category has always been used. Well, what a category!! Almost every term would fall under unofficial lingo, to such an extent that it would be more prudent to discuss "official lingo" as a category instead of the other way around. The official name for tilt attacks, for instance, is a "strong attack." Every advanced technique is a name made up or borrowed from another fighting game, not straight from HAL or Nintendo. Many character-specific names, such as "the knee" or "shine" would also fall into this category. I don't think it would be prudent to try and sort through every instance of lingo or jargon coined outside of Nintendo. MaskedMarth 02:10, September 13, 2006 (GMT)

Hmm...

Shouldn't this category be named "conjectural terms"? BNK [E|T|C] 07:00, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

It could be, and it almost means the same thing. But I think the difference is this: "conjectural" gives the impression that an official name may be revealed/discovered/given at a later date, or that the current name is a guess, and once the official name is discovered it will be implemeneted. "Unofficial" tells a user that the name is known to be unofficial, but people use it because it's more widely-known than the official name, or there is no official name. Usage on certain pages

Historically, this category was reserved only for pages that have no official name equivalent (i.e. it wasn't used on "tilt attack" or "ukemi" but it is on "blast line" and "Slide Launcher"). However, it does make a decent amount of sense to use it on pages like "tilt attack" as it's not an official term, with the counter-argument being that there is an official term that's noted on the page which may confuse people with how the category has always been used. The purple "unofficial" icon is set opposite the page title. Ergo, if the page title isn't the official term, then it's unofficial lingo. Simply mentioning the official term on the page doesn't cancel that (just as, vice-versa, using a non-official title as an "also known as..." in the first sentence shouldn't trigger a purple icon). - Reboot (talk) 21:48, 29 June 2011 (EDT)
Tilt's unofficial, and the template applies. Miles (talk) 21:52, 29 June 2011 (EDT)
