"Roy" is a label listed for a package of unfinished programming found within the code of Super Smash Bros. Brawl when hacking the game disc. Because of the name, many speculate it as being proof that Roy from the Japan-only GBA game Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, and who also previously appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a playable character, was once planned to return as such in Brawl. Despite the common belief of this theory, there is no other evidence to back this up. Another theory is that it was there for referential purposes by the programmers, or the result of imported data from Melee. Another possibility could be that it doesn't refer to the Fire Emblem character at all and that the name is actually in reference to Roy Campbell from Metal Gear. Because the programming is incomplete, none of these theories have been proved or disproved either way.
