Other characters[edit]

This edit you made was a blatant violation of how we handle recording character usage. The other characters entry in infoboxes is only for legitimate secondaries, which means when adding other characters to someone's infobox, they must meet the following criteria:

  • The player uses the character in actual tournament sets (so no characters they just fuck around with on streams and similar casual environments)
  • The player uses the character against legitimate opponents (so not just against pool scrubs they could beat with anyone)
  • The player uses the character with some real degree of success (so not a character they bust out just to lose with, the character must actually win them sets against legitimate opponents)
  • The player uses the character with some matter of frequency (so no one-offs like Nairo's Ult Ganon either)
  • The player used the character some time recently (or was still using the character by the time they stopped playing in the case of retired players), as infoboxes are meant to be up to date. If the player no longer uses the character but their usage of the character was significant, they must instead be put as a retired character.

The wiki had a serious problem in the past with the "other characters" entries of smashers' infoboxes being disgustingly bloated with useless characters that the players barely or never actually used in tournaments, and it took a concentrated effort by the userbase to address the problem (and it's still not fully cleaned up, I still come across smasher pages with bloated character usage in their infoboxes). Do follow this from now on whenever adding to someone' characters in their infobox. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 00:17, March 16, 2023 (EDT)

Alright, I'll be more careful 47.186.139.32 12:27, March 16, 2023 (EDT)

Skill levels[edit]

Hi, I strongly suggest you familiarize yourself with our new guidelines for the skill levels (the placing and ranking benchmarks cited obviously don't cleanly fit for post-Smash 4 Brawl with how few players there are, but you should appropriately severely tighten the standards for it with how few players there are and how much of the players entering modern Brawl majors are doing so on the side). Additionally, we are in the process of trying to make top level designation a lot more exclusive after it has been diluted to meaninglessness on this wiki, and upper high level, while naturally more lenient, needs some degree of exclusivity to it too to not end up so diluted like the old "top professional" designation. Do not upgrade players to these skill levels without prior discussion, whether through the discord channel or on the smasher's talk page. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 05:35, April 7, 2023 (EDT)

Alright, thank you, although I do find the new skill levels quite confusing. 47.186.139.32 11:55, April 7, 2023 (EDT)

If you have any questions I can answer, but if there are any questions to the tune of "why is X player not listed as top level while Y player is", keep in mind it's a work in progress and there are a lot of players listed as top level that have to be reviewed (there were about 1280 players when we started, and we're still not even under 1000 yet). Yeah I realize there are a lot of players who still have "top level" listed on their skill levels. I'll ask questions on your talk page in case I'm confused.47.186.139.32 12:40, April 7, 2023 (EDT)
