Mr. AR is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Dream. He was confirmed on December 9th, and is the second character confirmed by DatNuttyKid. He is the third first-party character to be confirmed for the game, following Pokémon Ranger and Nidoking. He is also the first first-party newcomer to be introducing a new series.

Attributes[edit]

Mr. AR is designed to be a "goofy" character, in a similar vein to Mr. Game & Watch, where he uses a number of unrelated props in random and often nonsensical ways. His attacks are taken from the various AR Games, such as Fishing and Archery.

Moveset[edit]

Standard Attacks[edit]

  • Neutral: Mr. AR headbutts.
    • Combo: Mr. AR headbutts, kicks, and then headbutts again.
  • F-Tilt: Mr. AR kicks forwards.
  • U-Tilt: Mr. AR jumps up, headbutting.
  • D-Tilt: Mr. AR does a split, making a comically pained face.
  • Dash: Mr. AR dives forwards, sliding across the ground facefirst.
  • F-Smash: Mr. AR pulls out his heart sunglasses and throws them forwards a very short distance.
  • U-Smash: Mr. AR jumps up and down twice.
  • D-Smash: Mr. AR faceplants.
  • N-Air: Mr. AR poses in his "Running" pose. Any collision with him while he is in this pose does damage.
  • F-Air: Mr. AR spins while facing sideways. If he lands while using this attack, he will be left stunned for a small amount of time.
  • B-Air: Mr. AR does a complete flip.
  • U-Air: A question mark appears over Mr. AR's head as he makes a confused expression. The question mark does damage.
  • D-Air: Mr. AR freezes in midair, looking panicked, before suddenly plummeting.
  • Grab - Fishing: Mr. AR swings the rod from the AR Game Fishing, which grabs opponents and pulls them back in. It also works as a tether recovery.
    • Pummel: Mr. AR kicks the opponent.
    • F-Throw: Mr. AR swings the fishing rod forward, sending the opponent flying.
    • B-Throw: Mr. AR tries to swing the fishing rod forward like in his F-Throw, but it slips out of his hand, sending both the opponent and the rod itself flying behind him. The rod can be grabbed by opponents and used as a battering item.
    • U-Throw: The AR Dragon appears underneath Mr. AR and hits the opponent, sending them flying upward, before vanishing. This does the most damage and knockback, but Mr. AR will be knocked over by the dragon and will take a few seconds to stand back up, leaving him vulnerable.
    • D-Throw: Mr. AR sits on the opponent, but bounces off, doing little damage and no knockback.
  • Floor-F: Mr. AR jumps straight up, doing damage with his head.
  • Floor-B: Mr. AR jumps straight up, doing damage with his head.
  • Floor-T: Mr. AR jumps straight up, doing damage with his head.
  • Edge: Mr. AR stands up, but slips and kicks wildly as he falls. This leaves him vulnerable for awhile.
  • Neutral Special - Archery: Mr. AR pulls out the bow and arrow from Archery and fires it, similar to Link's neutral special.
    • Custom 1 - Archery 2: The attack is much stronger, but takes longer to charge.
    • Custom 2 - Dragon Archery: The AR Dragon appears in front of Mr. AR before getting shot and vanishing. The arrow no longer does any damage and cannot be charged, but the Dragon damages opponents it hits.
  • Side Special - AR Shot: Mr. AR pulls out the pool cue from AR Shot and hits a ball with it. The stick does more damage, but the ball has more range.
    • Custom 1 - AR Shot 2: The ball is larger and does more damage, but it takes longer to charge and doesn't go as far.
    • Custom 2 - Dragon Shot: The AR Dragon appears and eats the ball just before Mr. AR hits it, before vanishing when the stick hits it. The stick does less damage, but the AR Dragon damages opponents it hits.
  • Up Special - Globe: Mr. AR pulls out the globe and it explodes, launching him upwards.
    • Custom 1 - Giant Globe: The globe and the explosion are larger, but Mr. AR's launch is harder to control.
    • Custom 2 - Bouncy Globe: Instead of the globe exploding, Mr. AR jumps on it, bouncing him upwards. This does less damage, but Mr. AR is launched further and easier to control.
  • Down Special - Graffiti: Mr. AR scribbles on the screen directly in front of him, hiding part of the battle.
    • Custom 1 - Direct Graffiti: Mr. AR scribbles on the nearest opponent instead, which does damage.
    • Custom 2 - Randomized Graffiti: Mr. AR scribbles on a random portion of the screen instead of in front of him.
  • Final Smash - 3D Tools: The AR game 3D Tools creates hills in the stage, which send opponents who are standing on that portion of the stage flying upwards.

Taunts[edit]

  • Up Taunt: Mr. AR pulls out his heart-shaped sunglasses and matches his pose from the AR Games when wearing them.
  • Side Taunt: Mr. AR does his running pose from the AR Games.
  • Down Taunt: Mr. AR does his fallen over pose from the AR Games.

On-Screen Appearance[edit]

The ? AR Card is thrown onto the stage and Mr. AR appears from it gleefully.

Idle Poses[edit]

  • Mr. AR falls asleep before snapping awake and looking around, embarrassed.
  • Mr. AR does a small dance.

Reveal trailer[edit]

The trailer opens up with Mario and Link battling on Final Destination. As they run towards each other, the ? AR Card flies in and lands between them, as they watch, confused. Mr. AR appears from it and blinks twice before the splash screen appears.

The rest of the trailer shows Mr. AR battling with Mario, Link, and various other opponents.

Trophies[edit]

Mr. AR
Put the ? AR Card on a table, point your 3DS at it, and ta-da! Mr. AR appears, ready to play! Or, in this case, fight! The many different AR Games props assist him in battle, including the ferocious AR Dragon! Just don't let yourself get distracted laughing at his crazy antics, or you may find yourself blasting off!

Mr. AR (Alt.)
There are a lot of fun AR Games to choose from. Archery allows you to shoot at targets, AR Shot is like mini-golf, Fishing lets you catch different kinds of fish... Using them to attack foes is a stroke of pure genius! Or perhaps pure insanity. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
