Overview[edit]

Instructional quotes[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter tips Ryu (SSBU) Keep up the pressure on a guarding enemy with Ryu's Collarbone Breaker, a double hit that's good for shield breaking.

Origin[edit]

A GIF of Ryu performing his forward MP.

The move originally debuted in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as Ryu's new forward command normal, a move input by holding towards the opponent on the Joystick (or D-pad on the console ports) then inputting a Medium Punch. The move has appeared in nearly every subsequent game in the Street Fighter franchise, with the majority of those appearances having the same input. The main feature of this move is the fact that it's an overhead, a move that must be blocked standing. This makes it a decent option for opening up players who play overly-defensively, holding down-back on their controller and being able to block nearly every move in the game (with the notable exceptions of overheads and unblockable attacks). Additionally, in every title it has appeared in, it has functioned as a multi-hit move, striking the opponent twice.
