Planet Namek (ナメック星, Planet Namek) appears as a playable stage in Super Smash Bros. 4, hailing from the Dragon Ball series. It is the home stage to Goku, and borrows its primary design from the Dragon Ball Z series.

Layout[edit]

The stage's layout contains many key aspects from Dragon Ball Z. The planet's towering cliffs make up a majority of the stage's layout, with platforms and buildings from the Capsule Corporation. Occasionally, Frieza will show up with his space ship, and attack the stage with his Death Beam and Death Wave attacks, the former racking up damage quickly, and the latter being a powerful slashing attack. Should the player not kill Frieza in time, he will unleash the Death Ball, a multi-hitting attack that explodes once finished. However, the Death Ball is concentrated in the middle of the stage (as is its explosion), so players can avoid the attack by moving to the sides of the stage.

The Omega Form of this stage pits the fighters on a square platform made of the planet, with walls leading up to the main stage. Frieza also has no chance of appearing.

Origin[edit]

A view of Planet Namek in its entirety.

Planet Namek is an iconic location from Dragon Ball, specifically the Dragon Ball Z storyline. During the Namek Saga, Planet Namek was terrorized by Frieza and his henchmen, and was ultimately destroyed by Frieza as a last-ditch effort to kill Goku in their battle during the Frieza Saga.
