'''The Box''' is an online tournament series held by {{Team|Team Liquid}} on {{Sm|Hungrybox}}'s [[Twitch]] channel. The series originally started with {{Trn|The Box}} and consisted of a weekly (Juice Box) held on Wednesdays as well as a monthly at the end of each month (Lunch Box) limited to [[Hungrybox]]'s Twitch subscribers. The series was sponsored by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coinbase ''Coinbase''] in February 2022, which shifted focus to the weeklies, now renamed to The Coinbox, with $2,000–$3,000 prize pools. Currently, ''Ultimate'' Coinboxes are held biweekly on Wednesdays with a $2,000 prize pool, with different games rotating each month. Most tournaments in the series are region-locked to North America as well as The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

While The Coinbox started as an ''Ultimate'' series, ''Melee'' began being run in February 2023, switching games every week, with ''Ultimate'' on Wednesdays and ''Melee'' on Tuesdays. However, on November 8th, 2023, following the announcement of the [[Nintendo Community Tournament Guidelines]], Hungrybox announced that Team Liquid would not be seeking a license for ''Melee'' Coinboxes due to the usage of [[Slippi]], and that the final ''Melee'' Coinbox would be [https://www.start.gg/tournament/the-final-melee-coinbox-full-bo5-6-000-prize-pool/details Coinbox #84].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAmidph6QU4|title=The Future of Coinbox (My Smash Tournament Series)}}</ref> There were ultimately 18 ''Melee'' Coinboxes held throughout 2023, of which {{Sm|Cody Schwab}} won an impressive 11 of the 14 that he entered. At times, there were bounties put on Cody Schwab for anyone to claim if they could take a set off him in bracket.

Hungrybox has also floated the idea of banning {{SSBU|Sonic}} from The Coinbox, citing the effect that the character has on stream viewership.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/liquidhbox/status/1755650610903318736|title=Sonic ban discussion}}</ref>

After the results of a [[Twitter]] poll, {{SSB4|Bayonetta}} was banned from {{Trn|The Coinbox 98 - SM4SH SENDOFF}} held just days before the [[Wii U]] online servers shut down on April 8th.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/LiquidHbox/status/1773209837922385997|title=Bayonetta ban vote}}</ref> Additionally, custom sizes for the {{SSB4|Mii Fighters}} were banned for the tournament, though default-sized Miis were legal with any custom [[special moves]].

*{{Sm|VoiD}}, {{Sm|Plup}}, and {{Sm|Sonix}} are the only players to have won a Box series tournament in multiple games.

**Plup's victories were in ''Smash Melee'' (Coinbox #70) and ''Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2'' (The SLIME Box #2).

*Sonix is the only player to have won a Box series event without dropping a single game, doing so in both The Coinbox #89 and #96.

*{{Team|Counter Logic Gaming}} won every ''Melee'' Coinbox while the team was active; with {{Sm|Cody Schwab}} winning #48, #52, #54, and #56, and {{Sm|Magi}} winning #50.

*Cody Schwab won every ''Melee'' Coinbox he entered except for #50, where he placed 9th, #66, where he placed 25th using {{SSBM|Sheik}}, and #82, where he again placed 9th after DQ'ing.
