How about merging it with Character? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.117.158.220 (talkcontribs)

Doesn't fit, IMO. I think the current merge makes more sense. SD706/FnW - (UTC ) 08:16, November 15, 2009 (UTC)

Since when were they called Smashers?[edit]

Title of the section. Paper Bowser (talk) 01:59, November 25, 2009 (UTC)

You may notice the words "unofficial" and "fan fiction". People have been using the term "Smashers" to refer to the playable characters since the Melee days - I myself have been using it for over four years (estimated). On the other hand, when people are talking about things in an external context (talking about strategies or game physics or stuff) they tend to say "character". Haha. I still think they should be called characters, and that the opinions of fans' shouldn't overrule fact. If it helps my case, in my entire ten years of playing this series, never have I heard anyone call them smashers. Then again, I am in Texas. It's a big state but it's extremely empty. Well, as I said, people never call them Smashers in the context of the actual game. You don't hear people say "Pikachu's my best Smasher", they say "Pikachu's my best character". That said, the term "Smasher" pops up too frequently in the in-universe context to be ignorable (in my opinion, anyway). The terms "character" (which only makes sense out-of-universe) and "fighter" (which the Dojo!! used but only makes sense in the context of an actual fight) don't seem to stick with fans. Needed?[edit]

Why would you type out "smasher (character)" instead of just "character"? - Ceci n’est pas un Smiddle. 04:54, 12 May 2013 (EDT)

Because a Smasher can refer to a player of Super Smash Bros. but can also refer to a playable fighter. It is needed for clarification that a smasher can also be a character, and "Character" is already and existing redirect. Awesome Cardinal 2000 12:02, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
What Smiddle means is: Why should you have to put one word in front of another, when the second word could simply be the page name? Redirects can be deleted, you know. I have to say, Smiddle's proposal has me, I'd support a move to Character because of that. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumA transparent image of Swadloon for my sig. 18:51, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
It's important to recgonize that a Smasher can also be a character. Awesome Cardinal 2000 19:00, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
It's important to recognise that a character is also a character. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumA transparent image of Swadloon for my sig. 19:03, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
Oh, my apologies, I clearly haven't done my research. This is only a redirect. Well, in that case, carry on. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumA transparent image of Swadloon for my sig. 19:05, 12 May 2013 (EDT)

This page exists because of an attempt to accomodate the people that use the term "Smasher" both to describe players and playable characters by converting "Smasher" to a disambiguation page. The disambig was undone by someone else and this was turned from a page into a redirect significantly later by another guy. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Altruistic 19:31, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
