Future-proofing[edit]

Are the victory poses intended to be listed in any particular order? On the Brawl and Smash 4 equivalent pages, the victory poses are ordered by "up, left, down", and Brawl additionally provides textual distinction for each one. We should definitely be matching the previous systems.

The same is true of the gifs of the poses; they are named according to the equivalent direction for Brawl, which more clearly conveys which is which and makes it easier for a potential template (as Brawl has). I propose that the naming convention for victory gifs for this game match Brawl's, e.g.: Mario-VictoryUp-SSBU.gif

There is another thing of note: each character has the victory pose used in team battles pre-set. They are set to use one of their victory poses for when they are the leader of the team, and another (or the same one, for many characters) when they are not. It should be documented which pose is used for each of these situations.

I bring up these suggestions because as it is, many of these that are already documented are going to need to be re-verified for which directional input they are. I'd like to make this point now, because otherwise later on we're going to have 200 victory poses which do not list their directional input (requiring them all to be retested) and 200 images which need to be renamed to match a convention. Victory poses with post-flourish animations[edit]

Some victory poses have animations that happen after the screen flashes the player colour and the announcer calls the fighter's name (I call it the "victory flourish"). Most of the victory pose GIFs we have on the wiki include those additional animations; however, I have noticed that a few such victory animations, such as Luigi who continuously points to the left and right, or Banjo & Kazooie with the former giving the thumbs-up, aren't included in their respective GIFs for some reason. Is there a reason for this? If there isn't, I can tag them with {{lowquality}} and hopefully get them replaced (or perhaps I can replace them myself if I can find out what the process is). The ones I did cut off before the color screen ends because the random sample I did were like that; I didn't notice some, like Diddy, were longer. I've outlined my gif process on my userpage if you are interested. Save the replay onto an SD card and put it on your computer then follow it. I don't know if the victory poses are set in replays or if you have control during recording; I know intros and random voices (like Kirby using Power Wave) are still random. --CanvasK (talk) 12:06, July 1, 2021 (EDT)

I know it's been a couple months since this, but something I just realized is that most of the files are already 9MB (the wiki has a limit of 10MB). Looking at my files for Sora (since I recently did those), 1 second is about 2.2MB, so adding an extra second wouldn't be possible for everyone. I played around with my GIF making script and was able to reduce the size by about 15%. I also tried letting a CPU win so that grey appeared instead of red and that reduced it by 7% (tried with 2 CPUs so there is no red or blue in the bottom left but that increased the size somehow). Together I got about a 20% overall reduction and got an average of 1.5MB per second; I was able to get 7 seconds with one of Sora's (which is 1.5s more than that one needed) and had 0.5MB to spare. Other methods to reduce size include reducing the dimensions (which may need to be done for Sephiroth), reducing framerate, remove the half-second at the start (which may be inconsistent with the others unless all are redone), and not forcing my script to recompute palettes (-20% but I oppose because it washes out some colors (especially for colorful GIFs) and causes a moiré pattern when scaled). --CanvasK (talk) 18:14, October 21, 2021 (EDT)
