In response to the edit war[edit]

Firstly, yes, I'm fully admitting to taking part in an edit war.

Secondly, and more to the point, this whole thing could be fixed by removing the table and changing:

A character's Fighter Spirit is unlocked either when the player completes Classic Mode as that character, or they unlock it in the Vault shop for 300G. When the player views the Fighter Spirit in the Collection, the default artwork will be artwork from their home series, but the player can switch it with their artwork from Ultimate instead. Characters that have other characters as alternate costumes (such as gender swaps, the Koopalings, Alph, and the Dragon Quest III, IV, and VIII Heroes) or significant alternate costumes (such as Mario's Building and Wedding Outfits or Pikachu Libre) have separate Fighter Spirits from the base fighter than can only be unlocked in the Vault Shop. There are also a few Fighter Spirits that are unlocked by completing certain challenges.

The Mario (Wedding), Meta Ridley, Ike (Path of Radiance), and Cloud (Advent Children) Spirits can also be unlocked via challenges, and the Mario (Wedding) Spirit can also be unlocked via the Wedding Mario amiibo.

Why bother listing everything that isn't true when we can list everything that is true? This wording also doesn't imply that this will forever be the only list of discrepancies, and can be changed as necessary. Should there be a ton more discrepancies, then we can add the table back. I'm of the opinion that the columns are pointless. Because there are only 4 that can be unlocked via challenges, and wedding Mario is the only one unlockable via amiibo, everything the columns mention about the few spirits that are unlocked differently can easily be written at the top of the page, and then we can remove the extra byte added by columns and reduce loading times. EDIT: SK mentioned to keep the first 2 columns because it isn't exactly clear which pallet swaps are supposed to be alt characters, so I think that's a better idea than removing them entirely. It's mostly the last 2 columns that have information that can easily be explained at the top of the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by OmegaToad64 (talkcontribs) 22:15, March 10, 2020
Agreed. If my numbers are correct, then only 29 out of about 110 Fighter Spirits aren't obtainable in Classic Mode (22/110 not counting all of the Koopalings). Would be much easier to make a list with the exceptions. And if Fighter's Pass #2 is the last, then we'll get maybe 12 or at most 20 more depending on the characters, which wouldn't be enough to sway it in my opinion.--CanvasK (talk) 18:56, March 10, 2020 (EDT)

I am for removing the last 2 columns, but against removing the entire table. It isn't clear which character alt costumes are supposed to be alt characters, as the paragraph describes (the only ones I am seeing missing at a quick glance is wireframe little mac and reverse Ice Climbers). Also I think having all of the images in one place is good. SerpentKing 19:02, March 10, 2020 (EDT)

I am also not advocating for removing the whole table, just the last three columns. Aidan, the Rurouni 19:43, March 10, 2020 (EDT)
...Actually that is a good idea to keep the first 2 columns. With wireframe Mac being such a signifficant change one would expect it to be one of those pallet swap characters obtainable in the shops. Adding to this PoR Ike is the only fighter spirit that cannot be purchased from the shop according to the list and RD Ike is exclusive to the shop, whereas biker Wario and regular Wario can be obtainable both ways, so I don't think the 2nd column should be removed as Aidan suggested. If Path of Radiance Ike is the only one who can't be bought, then what is the purpose of the second column? Same reason for the fourth; Wedding Mario is the only one. I can see why there would be dissent over the removal of the first column, but the second and fourth columns absolutely need to go. The first column is fine after giving it some thought, as there are several major costumes that don't have spirits, as Serpent King mentioned. The third, while not horrible, is better stated as a trivia point or at the top of the page instead of having a full table for it. 72.203.118.154 22:26, March 10, 2020 (EDT)

DLC Fighter Spirits[edit]

So, can someone clarify how DLC fighter Spirits work if you don’t have the DLC. Are they still obtainable in the vault shop, but they don’t have the Ultimate artwork with them, or how does it work (I’ve always had the DLC so I don’t know for myself). Pratikmii03 (talk) 09:13, April 13, 2020 (EDT)

About Mii Fighters' Origins[edit]

While the Mii Fighters themselves debuted in Smash 3DS and are listed as being from the Super Smash Bros. Series, the tip lists the Miis origin from the Wii. This would make Wii Sports the origin game of the Miis. Should it be changed? Diddy Kongstar (talk) 13:19, October 23, 2020 (EDT)

Shadowless artwork[edit]

Is there any chance that someone can get a shadowless version of everyone's Smash renders (aside from the Koopalings, Pokémon Trainer, Robin, Wii Fit Trainer, Cloud, Miis, and Joker, who already use shadowless artwork) just so everyone can have consistency as well as be accurate to the actual spirits (which I'm pretty sure don't have shadows). Pratikmii03 (talk) 08:08, December 13, 2020 (EST)

While this is very much possible (in fact, I have most Fighter Spirit sprites on my computer right now) and I personally think that's a very good idea, I expect others here to argue that the way we do it right now is simpler and gets the job done just fine (and the artwork with the shadow is always wayyyyyy higher quality than the artwork without). In the files from The Spriters Resource there are shadowless versions which are saved as "chara_5_NAME_##". While the shadow-ed artwork is higher quality (due to them being promotional/official renders), they aren't 100% true to what is used in game. A while back when Min Min was released someone replaced the uploaded fighter spirit with a higher res promotional render, and it was soon reverted as it isn't straight from the game (same thing will happen to Flick and the other AC:NH spirits when possible). I'm refraining from uploading them because I'm not sure what the best course of action would be. Some of the existing ones use "_alt#_SSBU" (such as the Koopalings) but so does female Byleth who uses the promotional render. Uploading as a separate name would raise a "duplicate file" warning on some. Even ignoring the warning there is the issue of what name would be used. Right now I'd argue the whole thing is a low priority, but what I've mentioned should be considered if it does happen. --CanvasK (talk) 09:03, December 13, 2020 (EST)
I stand corrected about the duplicate file thing. The Koopaling's don't have a shadow because the images from smashbros.com (where the promotional/official renders come from) don't have shadows for whatever reason. The game file for the fighter spirit is smaller, meaning a duplicate file warning won't happen. This leaves the only issue being the upload name. The ones used for Joker are also an issue, but since they've been edited for the infobox on his page then a new upload should be easy. I'm thinking "SSBU spirit NAME_2" or something similar and I have an idea on how it could be implemented into SpiritTableName. --CanvasK (talk) 09:46, December 13, 2020 (EST)
I actually want to bring this back up, since I realized that Ice Climber's Ultimate artwork is actually different than their official one (Nana is much closer to Popo). And if we were to change one spirit to their shadowless, more accurate counterparts, I think all of them should be...Pratikmii03 (talk) 21:40, June 28, 2021 (EDT)
