Talk:Delfino Plaza
Better Image[edit]
We really need to get a better image for Delfino Plaza. One of the Wii U version that features no characters. Ma321 (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2014 (EST)

betaness[edit]
so I found this. it says that basically brawl used the manhole cover design from the sunshine beta instead of the finished version. this seems relevant to put in the differences section, but first maybe someone (who isn't me because they actually know the subject matter) should see how many other differences could be from the beta. cheers STM (t) 00:28, 3 September 2016 (EDT)
Origin section[edit]
I appreciate the effort and do not want to discredit that by any means, but the Origin section now comprises almost half the page and is far longer than the Origin section on any other article. I particularly don't think we need the glossary of terms at the end, and I also think it's a little excessive that most of the origin section is a detailed description of background objects and implied features from the original game with no gameplay impact. I do think there could be room for enriching the original Origin section as it was a little no-frills, but this definitely is a bit much in the opposite direction. I really think as per standard, the best practice is to explain enough about the stage's concept and gameplay design origins to provide necessary context for Smash, and refer people to the Mariowiki for interwiki links that arise if they're curious about diving further into other topics. Great Bay is a good example of an origin section that is clearly-written and tailored to this standard. --Flippy (talk) 16:19, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
- The context is all there in one piece. The origin section is longer because it had the most effort put into it. I tried very hard keeping it all connected to SSB. Removing even 5% of the info would scramble the information between two wikis, which I don't think anybody wants. If I didn't think it connected to Smash in any way, shape, or form (e.g. the list of Shine Sprites to get), I would not have added it. Every summary I explained exactly what I was doing and why. - Most of that context is not related or relevant to the stage's appearance in Smash or the wiki's scope is what I'm saying. the rundown of Sunshine's secret courses for example explicitly is not, that has no influence on the ingame stage and would be like if Princess Peach's Castle described every painting world in SM64. The detailed description of buildings, etc. doesn't provide any context regarding their role or function that isn't observable or is fundamental to their role only as simple background objects. I am a bit taken aback by the scrambled information between two wikis statement. The purpose of Smashwiki is not to be a duplicate of Mariowiki or any other wiki, it is to cover content directly present in Super Smash Bros. and refer users to other wikis for more information on those respective series, and vice versa - the Mariowiki for example used to have wider Smash coverage with full pages for every character, stage, etc., to the point it arguably was a pseudo-second Smash wiki, but in more recent times implemented the same practice of streamlining their pages to the wiki's scope and referring users here for more. Setting and maintaining a specific scope is a standard part of a wiki. --Flippy (talk) 16:49, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
- Have you actually played Super Mario Sunshine? Because I'm not seeing any proof of that--all I'm seeing is that you're extrapolating this wiki policies to an extent similar to deletionists who have overtaken Wikipedia. And you didn't give a compelling argument about the inconvenience about hopping between wikis for info when it's all conveniently laid out in one article; all you do is openly defend supposed mandates. I have a very hard time believing these statements are done in good faith. The difference with Mario is that it's not inherently a crossover: Super Smash Bros. is. - Super Mario Sunshine is the game I got my parents to get me a GameCube for back in 2003. I've played it start to finish several times. Don't make this personal. I don't make the rules of the wiki but they have been set in stone long before I got here and are what most editors and staff here are on the same page about and edit accordingly. If you disagree with how the wiki works, that's on you. --Flippy (talk) 17:17, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
- Extrapolated headcanon policy is more important than granular details about a video game that could be completely lost in the process. Got it. Conker the Squirrel (talk) 17:29, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
- So, you basically admit that you're trying to use this page for a purpose it is not intended for? In that case, I see no reason why we should keep your edits, since they are clearly not intended to provide more information about the stage in Smash. Attacking other users for pointing this out is not the way to handle disagreements. Alex the Weeb 17:38, August 29, 2026 (UTC)
