The '''Spring 2020 PGRU''' is a cancelled list of the best smashers for ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''. The ranking period started on December 16th, 2019 and became frozen on March 12th, 2020 because of the [[COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on competitive Smash|COVID-19 outbreak]].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1237971902750171136|title=Effective immediately, the PGR and TTS will be frozen.}}</ref> On November 19th, 2021, the PGRU was announced to return on January 1st, 2022.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1461786518461288455|title=The PGR Returns January 2022}}</ref> However, on December 28th, 2021, PGstats announced the PGRU would not be reopening on January 1st, 2022 due to the rise of COVID cases globally.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1475920289548496898|title=Reopening postponed}}</ref> They will reassess the situation in February 2022, and will give at least 2 weeks' notice before resuming the rankings.

In January to February 2022, a series of articles titled [[PGRContenders]] will be published, looking at some of the biggest PGR contenders from North America and Europe heading into the new season. ==Methodology==
Due to concerns over players attempting to game the rankings, the methodology received an overhaul. Rankings would be panel-based instead of using an algorithm, in a similar fashion to the [[MPGR]]. The rankings themselves would be extended by 50 places and now would rank the top 100 players instead of 50. Players in Area 51 would be counted for the PGRU, and five additional "rising stars" would be considered for PGR tournaments 3 months into the season; both would be worth the same as those ranked from 31-50. The international multiplier was changed as well: the multiplier for the continental United States and Japan remained the same; however, the multiplier everywhere else changed to ~1.67x; the C-tier threshold for those countries was now 120. Disqualifications for entrants in free-to-enter tournaments were counted, and a 1-DQ buffer was given to S-tier tournaments. Finally, there were plans for an off-season starting in December and ending in January.
