==Overview==
Revenge is a unique [[counterattack]]. When initially triggered, Incineroar receives 0.4× of the incoming attack's damage, and produces a minor burst of flame that deals minimal damage with [[set knockback]]. However, this also applies a damage boost to the next attack Incineroar lands, which is indicated by its fur radiating an orange glow until the attack in question hits an opponent. Otherwise, the stored boost lasts for a maximum of 60 seconds, which decreases if Incineroar uses attacks that miss, and is lost if it receives a total of 36% damage or gets thrown by a normal throw or a special move throw (although [[Alolan Whip]] from another Incineroar doesn't count). Incineroar can keep countering attacks using Revenge to reset its duration and add to the boost's strength.

Revenge will work against [[Death's Scythe]], but not if Incineroar's damage percent is within its [[instant KO]] range. Likewise, it only works against [[Whack]] or [[Thwack]] if their instant KO chance fails. It also won't stop [[unblockable attack]]s from dealing knockback, but will still reduce the knockback and damage from them. If Incineroar successfully uses Revenge, but improperly times its usage of [[Alolan Whip]], Revenge will remain active as well. It is also possible to preserve Revenge via neutral attack's first and second hits, as well as [[Cross Chop]]'s ascending and non-meteor smash descending hitboxes, allowing all portions of the attacks to benefit from the boost.

===Damage multiplier===
The boost applied by Revenge upon initially countering an attack is equal to <code>0.075 * d + 1.5</code>, where '''d''' is the damage dealt by the attack (ignoring the 0.4× multiplier for Incineroar's damage taken), with an upper limit of 3× at 20% damage. For example, using Revenge against an attack that deals 15% will apply a multiplier of 2.625×. Given the formula, the minimum damage boost will always be 1.5×. Using a boosted attack on a shield reduces the boost's strength to 0.2×, so damage done to shields is greatly reduced (resulting in a maximum multiplier of 1.4×); however, hitlag on shield and shieldstun (as well as the resulting shield pushback) are not reduced, so boosted attacks are still significantly safer on shield.

With a boost already active, if another attack is countered by Revenge, the new damage multiplier is determined by the formula <code>m + (d * 0.075 + 0.5) * (1 - 0.25 * (m - 1))</code>, where '''m''' is the multiplier from the previous boost, and '''d''' is the damage dealt by the newly countered attack. Because of this, Revenge is overall more effective when activated multiple times, even if a single countered attack deals more damage than the sum of multiple countered attacks. For example, if Revenge is used against three attacks that deal 5% each, the resulting damage multipliers are 1.875×, 2.5586×, and the maximum of 3×, which is higher than the 2.625× multiplier achieved by countering a single attack that deals 15%.

Prior to version {{SSBU|8.0.0}}, the damage multiplier granted by Revenge used to be weaker, with a formula of <code>0.075 * d + '''1.25'''</code> for the initial boost, and <code>m + (d * 0.075 + '''0.25''') * (1 - 0.25 * (m - 1))</code> for multiple boosts. As a result, the minimum possible damage boost was 1.25× (down from 1.5×), and the minimum damage needed from a single attack for the maximum boost was 23.34% (up from 20%).

===Knockback and storage factors===
Revenge's damage boost is ignored entirely by affected attacks. Instead, when Revenge is active, each kind of attack uses its own knockback multiplier, which scales from 1× to the specified amount, proportionally to how close the damage multiplier is to the maximum of 3×. For example, with the maximum damage multiplier, Incineroar's [[tilt]]s and [[aerial attack]]s receive a knockback multiplier of 1.15×, while [[smash attack]]s receive a multiplier of 1.2×; however, if the damage multiplier is 2×, the resulting knockback multipliers for these attacks are 1.075× and 1.1×, respectively. Each attack also has a set number of seconds lost from the boost's storage if it misses.

Incineroar's [[pummel]], [[floor attack]]s, [[edge attack]], and non-battering [[item]]s are not affected by Revenge, and neither use up the boost nor cause storage loss.

On exactly frame 3 of Revenge, it is possible for Incineroar to preserve momentum and utilize it when hit with an attack. The most distance and effectiveness comes from Incineroar being hit in the air. A successful Impact Revenge results in Incineroar drifting forwards, making it a movement option.

While it cannot be executed on reaction without extreme precision, reacting to the instances Impact Revenge works is very possible. This can allow for strong, almost unreactable follow-ups. The usual follow-up is an {{mvsub|Incineroar|SSBU|up aerial}} string, although {{mvsub|Incineroar|SSBU|up tilt}} can be used for frame traps. An aerial Impact Revenge into {{mvsub|Incineroar|SSBU|up smash}} is a particularly strong way to take stocks, immediately making use of the Revenge boost for a potential kill confirm, though it is very situational. Footstools are also possible for gimping opponents while preserving the Revenge boost. Using Impact Revenge to hitconfirm is a very powerful tactic for Incineroar, greatly assisting its potential [[punish]] game and improving its kill power.
