Article on Super Mario Wiki Rosalina

Rosalina (ロゼッタ, Rosetta) is a character from the Mario series. She was confirmed as a newcomer to Super Smash Bros. 4 on December 18, 2013 via Nintendo Direct.

Character Description

Rosalina has appeared in both Super Mario Galaxy games in non-playable roles. In Super Mario Galaxy, she runs the Comet Observatory, which is the home of herself and the Lumas. It passes by her home planet every one hundred years. Her backstory is explained in a storybook read to the Lumas at various points during the game, which reveals that Rosalina first journeyed into space to help a lost Luma find its mother, eventually building the Comet Observatory, finding out about the disappearance of her own mother, and forming a new family relationship with the Lumas as their adoptive mother. Rosalina also appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2 at the end of the game's story, and appears on Starship Mario after the player collects all 242 Power Stars. She first appeared as a playable character in Mario Kart Wii and is playable in all subsequent Mario Kart games. However, her first playable appearance in a mainseries Mario platformer was Super Mario 3D World.

As a playable character

Rosalina is a newcomer in SSB4. She uses a Luma, who helps her, for a variety of her attacks. Luma can be controlled along with Rosalina, giving the pair a "puppet-fighter" archetype.

Rosalina & Luma are ranked 3rd out of 56 characters on the tier list, making them one of three S tier characters. They have a defensive neutral game, with Luma being able to shield Rosalina, and Gravitational Pull being able to render projectile camping useless against them. When the pair are together they can be difficult to approach, as one can cover the other and punish opponents when in danger. They also have good KOing power, thanks to Luma's standalone power and Rosalina's disjointed range. However, Luma can be KO'd temporarily, removing one of Rosalina's key strengths. She's also tall and very light, making her easy to launch. Rosalina's recovery, Launch Star, gives her a linear travel path that has no damaging uses, making her vulnerable when recovering. Nevertheless, Rosalina & Luma's positives have allowed them to enjoy high tournament results.

Europe Rosalina and the Lumas have been close ever since she travelled the galaxy with one to help the little star find its mother. Now, the commander of the Comet Observatory appears in this game, with her trusty companion fighting alongside her. Their greatest strength is being able to attack together at the same time.
Rosalina (Alt.)
North America Rosalina can pull in items and projectiles around her with her Gravitational Pull move. Her up special Launch Star is a diagonal jump and, though harmless, it has exceptional range. You also have some control over Rosalina's trajectory when she uses it.
Europe With a flick of Rosalina's wand, the move Gravitational Pull draws in items - even ones that are stuck somewhere. Her Launch Star up special is a diagonal jump that can be aimed slightly. It doesn't deal any damage, but it helps you jump higher and stay in the air longer, making it ideal for getting back to the stage easily.

Trivia
