A Head icon is a term to describe the small icon that each character has on their damage meter in Super Smash Bros.

The head icons in Brawl.

& in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl the head icon is shown when loading a stage. Head icons are icons that are usually modeled after the characters' head, hence the name Head icon. Every playable character in all 3 Super Smash Bros. game have one for every Palette swap they have. In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, most non-playable characters have one as well (with the enemies in Adventure Mode and the Fighting Polygon Team being exceptions). In Brawl, none of the non-playable characters have head icons because of them only appearing in the stage select screen. Also in Brawl, instead of head icons used for the stock meter, generic circles colored depending on which player the character is, are used instead.

Trivia[edit]

  • Captain Falcon is the only playable character in Super Smash Bros. whose "head icon" isn't designed after his head, it's his Blue Falcon sign.
    • In Melee, Jigglypuff and Mr. Game & Watch's head icons show their whole body, including their head.
    • Though, in Brawl, only Jigglypuff's head icon shows her whole body instead of only her head.
  • In Melee, the bosses have more detailed head icons, being 32 pixels long by 32 pixels wide compared to the other characters, whose head icons are 24 pixels long by 24 pixels wide. Though they are stretched to look the same size in gameplay.
