::The word "alternate", according to thesaurus.reference.com, can mean either "substitute" or "every other". And "alternative" is actually given as a synonym for its "substitute" meaning. So I'd say keep it how it is; there's nothing wrong with it, and "alternative" is a much wordier word anyways.
