| Mummification is a process (either accidental or deliberate) in which a deceased body is prevented from further decomposing. Egyptian mummies in particular have captured the popular imagination, and have been elements of horror fiction since at least the dawn of the twentieth century. Given the NES-era ''Castlevania'' titles' predilection for drawing from classic horror films, it is likely that Mummies' presence in the ''Castlevania'' series are a nod to the 1932 film ''The Mummy'' starring Boris Karloff as the titular Mummy. Karloff also famously portrayed [[The Creature & Flea Man|Frankenstein's monster]].
