A spike is an attack that sends the opponent downward. Most characters possess a spike attack (usually an aerial move), but some are stronger than others; Falco and Marth's down aerials are two of the most effective spikes, because they send the opponent down very quickly with high stun and without a chance to meteor cancel. Most other characters have spikes, of varying efficacy.
