Kid Icarus is a video game released for the NES in 1986 in Japan, and in 1987 elsewhere. It runs on the same engine as Metroid, and the two games were released within a short time span of the other. Kid Icarus is usually frowned upon in comparison to Metroid, because of its strict linearity, and Metroid's focus on nonlinear exploration.
