'''Waddle Dees''' ({{ja|ワドルディ|Wadoru Di}}, ''Waddle Dee'') are the main inhabitants of Dream Land. They make various appearances in the ''{{b|Super Smash Bros.|series}}'' series. Many of the Waddle Dees are also affiliated with [[King Dedede]], and are the most common regular enemy in the {{uv|Kirby}} series.

==Origin==

Waddle Dees first appeared in ''[[Kirby's Dream Land]]'' and started appearing in just about every game after that. They have no true form of attacking: they just walk around and sometimes leap into the air. However, they damage Kirby on contact. While many of them are affiliated to [[King Dedede]] and act as "henchmen", they are generally peaceful denizens that seldom fight actively; as a result, most Waddle Dees stay out of Kirby's way and just walk around minding their own business.

For the most part, Waddle Dees behave the same way in each game. However, many variations of the species exist, such as [[Waddle Doo]]s. In some cases, Waddle Dee exists as a playable character as well, such as {{s|wikirby|Bandana Waddle Dee}}, an ally to [[Kirby]] in several games. One of the more iconic variants is the [[Parasol Waddle Dee]], which float downwards while holding a [[Parasol]] and can grant Kirby the {{s|wikirby|Parasol}} ability if the umbrella is inhaled.

Waddle Dees are the standard projectile used in {{SSBB|King Dedede}}'s [[side special move]], [[Waddle Dee Toss]], and in his [[Final Smash]], [[Waddle Dee Army]].  After being thrown, they "waddle" across the stage, and will do one of three things while they walk: trip in place, stumble forward, or jump. Its jump attack deals a small amount of damage and moderate knockback, similar to when a thrown Waddle Dee hits an opponent.

During King Dedede's Final Smash, [[Waddle Dee Army]], Waddle Dees will fall then quickly run across the stage, knocking any opponent in their path in the direction that they were running.

In the [[Subspace Emissary]], Waddle Dees appear in the last scene of [[The Battlefield Fortress]], where {{SSBB|Luigi}} is frightened by their presence. Suddenly, Luigi is attacked from behind by King Dedede, making him become a trophy. King Dedede places Luigi on the road as a bait for {{SSBB|Wario}}, who is coming down the road. Wario is ambushed by several Waddle Dees while Dedede steals his [[Cargo]] and the trophies. Four Waddle Dees carry King Dedede on a palanquin during his [[on-screen appearance|entrance]], and one of them stands in front of him in one of his [[List of victory poses (SSBB)#King Dedede|victory poses]].

Hacking in the enemies file package of the ''Brawl'' disc has revealed data that appears to have been made for Waddle Dee, suggesting that it was planned to be included in the Subspace Emissary as an enemy.

Waddle Dees no longer appear in King Dedede's side special, which has been replaced with the new move [[Gordo Throw]] which exclusively throws [[Gordo]]s. They have also been removed from Dedede's Final Smash, as Waddle Dee Army has been replaced with the new [[Dedede Burst]]. Their only appearance with King Dedede is his on-screen appearance, and in one of his victory poses. A Waddle Dee pattern is also embroidered on King Dedede's clothes in his green [[alternate costume]].

Additionally, a Waddle Dee appears and the character Bandana Waddle Dee appear as [[primary spirit]]s. In [[Adventure Mode: World of Light]], the Waddle Dee spirit is located in the [[Gourmet Race]] subarea of [[The Light Realm]] and can be encountered if the player collects 3-6 pieces of food. Alternatively, the spirit can be obtained by scanning a Waddle Dee [[amiibo]]. Bandana Waddle Dee can be obtained by [[Enhanceable spirit|enhancing]] the Waddle Dee spirit at level 99.
